hand held ballistics calculator

Sure, a disconnected iPhone or an iPod will run the ballistic programs without phone service or internet connection. You'll have to manually input atmospheric conditions, though (you can install an app to read the wind, but beyond that you'll have to use other means of measuring data).

Is there a decent iPhone app to read wind? Something semi accurate?

I've found Wind Speed to be quite accurate, but you have to manually calibrate it based on how dirty and clogged up your microphone screen is.

At the end of the day, this app, as well as other wind gauges, are all tools to get you in the general ball park. Fine tuning the net wind speed and directional equivalent of the actual wind drift can only be done by a practiced and well-tuned shooter ;)

These are the 3 I most often use.

1. KAC Bulletflight
2. iSnipe
3. iStrelok(huge selection of reticles, and a sliding magnification scale to show your point of impact relative to the reticle you choose at whatever power you choose)

I've looked at that one before but question if it's worth the $30 price tag. Any one got some input for it???

FYI, they just did some significant updates on Ballisitic: AE (FTE), and it is better than ever with all the new and useful features. Definitely worth the $20 price tag if you're serious about shooting long.

Does it have max and min wind values for both direction AND speed? There should be 4 wind walues based on 2 directions and 2 speeds and a good calcualtor will factor in all 4 and give you the max and min.

I know iSnipe factors in wind speed but not wind direction to get 2 values.

Yeah I'm still not seeing what I want. The first person to deisgn a ballistics calculator that can be slaved to a Kestel 4500 via bluetooth to read a 5 min extreme spread of 4 wind values based on 2 wind speeds and 2 wind directions in order to give 2 extreme spreads of windage adjustment (and an average between the two) *gaaaaasp* gets my money.

Wind at the target is a moot point for me. Best case scenario I've got a wind flag down range and can estimate when to take the shot based on when it matches the wind at my end. No way I'd slave the adjustment value to an unknown wind speed and direction downrange.

You're not quite getting it. You are not slaving to a wind value at the target. You can enter multiple wind locations, directions, and speeds, and it gives you a net wind drift correction. It won't provide a max and min windage correction or connect via Bluetooth. You still have to have wind reading skills to make hits at LR ;)

I think Shooter can be slaved to a Kestrel. I could be wrong though.

I'm running bullet flight . Bullet drop and let it fly
Off an I phone . Bullet flight does not give energy at target
But does give drift , but let it fly is about 3 buck app
And gives energy at target and it comes out the same as bullet flight

I am choosing not to use the Horus 4500 because of the fact I can save the $190 and use my smartphone with Shooter for $9.95.

I think anything with a smartphone and the Horus 4500 is silly, but that's not to say it's a total waste of money.

I remember hearing that Rick @ ARTS used the Horus 4500. Other than that, haven't heard of it often.

Kestrel Partners with Applied Ballistics Inc. to Integrate Well-Regarded Ballistics Calculator into New Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter and also a Horus compatable version. With Bluetooth a unit is going to run 700.00 ?

Anyone here use Applied Ballistics? Debating 'weather' it's worth all the extra money?
