hey cgn are any of you loading for modern rifles in the 9.3x62?
are any of you goin above max or pushen some warmth through the tube?

on ADIs info, looks like with a 250gr 58gr of AR2208- Varget is a compressed load, so does that mean..thats the limit? unless I seat out further perhaps?

Therefore, a modern bolt-action repeater — such as a Ruger Hawkeye African, a CZ 550, or a TIKKA T3 in 9.3 X 62 can safely be loaded to the same psi as any modern bolt-action repeater in .338 Winchester Magnum. And the brass cases are just as strong. So there’s no reason not to venture there. That means it’s possible to add about 150 fps to the traditional load of 286grs at 2360 fps. As before stated: New loads for this famed cartridge, which are made in the USA by Remington, Hornady et al, reflect this conservative stance at 2360 fps for their 286gr loadings.

The quality of the brass will determine as much as anything what pressure levels you're able to run at. I prefer Lapua brass, which is relatively easy to find, though pricey. All my loads are over book max, though so far I haven't pushed it to the limits of the brass. There's no reason it can't be run at the same pressure levels as the .270/.300 WM, etc. in a modern rifle. The chamber of your particular rifle will be the other determining factor. If the chamber is on the generous side, you might find you can't get the velocity that others have reported.

Whynot has a thread somewhere in this forum on how to convert .30-06 brass to 9.3mm. Fairly simple process, I've never bothered though because of the readily available Lapua.
 
I don't load the ragged edge in my 9.3x62 but on some online sources I have found loads for up to 59gr Varget under 286gr bullets.

I have loaded up to 58gr under 220-235gr bullets but for the 270gr - 286gr class I have seen no benefit to exceeding 55gr Varget.

Not sure of the relative densities compared to Varget but apparently the 'velocity kings' in the 9.3x62 are RE17 and Ramshot Big Game.
 
In the Pet Loads book by Ken Waters there is a great article by him about the 9.3 x 62. The powders he used are older types but ones I can find today easily. It was an interesting read.
 
Awesome info Guys, ill no doubt look into these other powders and quote them for price against the ADI but I cant see it being close considering it is being imported in.

compressed loads put a few of us Off, but as one mentions there isn't much need proberly for much more thn a certain amount of accuracy to get it done.
for my hold over it wont matter much if it is 2 inches less drop at the distance, I go off say a backline hold or air the backline etc. ill have to load up and work that out later!

I zero at 175 yds. with 285's, that puts me 6" low at 250, and a foot low at 300. Easy to remember, and that's about as far as I care to shoot.

i pushed the oryx with lapua brass and 60 grains of varget at 2493fps in a 22 inches barrel ... not necessary but always good to try .
... the 375 ruger was easier to shoot than that specific load ... rings didnt like too ...
