Hand loading S&W Model 29-2 .44

The Lyman 3rd edition Pistol and Revolver handbook says 10.5 grains of Unique will push a 200gr jacketed HP at 905 fps. I can not confirm this as I have never used that load before. That being said, it is the suggested starting load listed when using Unique and a 200 grain jacketed HP. The handbook lists a max load of 13.2 grains of Unique at 1148 fps.

I shoot 240 gr cast LSWC from my S&W Model 29 with 7 grains of Unique. It is really a light load and a pleasure to shoot for anyone. Shoot some of those then put in some full house loads and you will wonder what hit you. Here’s the link to Alliant’s website http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/powderlist.aspx?type=1&powderid=3&cartridge=33.

This is my favorite load as well. VERY accurate out of my 29-2 with the 8 3/8 barrel. If you want a tooth rattler try any load with 2400! TC

My favourite load for 44 Mag is 19.6grns of 2400 with a Hard cast 240gr keith style semiwadcutter. Doesn't lead the barrel, very accurate, recoil is acceptable, but still has some magnum thump.

Full house rounds are 22grns of 2400 and copper jacketed 240gr bullets - range rattler!
