Anybody from Penticton, or nearby? I'll be there this weekend and was hoping to shoot some trap. I know there's Penticton Shooting Sports, but I'll have a couple friends with me who have never shot trap, and I'm looking for a place we could hand throw some clays, as I think it might be a more relaxed introduction to the sport for them. Anybody know any locations to do this?

You can come out to the summerland range if you want.
They are pretty anal at the Penticton club. They do have trap on sunday from 10am to 1pm from there trap houses but I know they wont let you hand throw them.
I will be at the summerland range at about 10:40am on saturday. If you are interested give me a pm and I will give you some directions.

Can you say, "#### Cheny"?
Seriously what does "hand throwing" mean?
Is it with a hand held device ... if so I guess that's safe enough.

If you go up to Summerland, and head towards the KVR and garbage dump, you should be able to find your way onto the back road that goes all the way to Princeton. Drive along there for a few clicks. Eventually you'll see a very flat section on the left. There's a bunch of stuff that people have used for targets, you can kind of see it from the road - but what will stand out is how it is fairly flat compared to the rest of the terrain. There's probably around 200m+ that you can shoot into a bit of a mound away from the road. There are a couple of trees, and I don't know if they limit the usefull shooting range much, I've only shot my .22 there. There's also going to be a lot of junk that people have shot at - computer, DVD player, lots of glass. There's a gong set up on the mound.

If you don't know the area that well I could probably give better directions if this sounds like a good place for you.

BTW, when I started shooting, I bought a hand thrower, and returned it that day for a spring loaded one. It was really tough to the the hand thrower to release properly. You'll likely have way more fun with a spring loaded thrower. It's probably the best shooting investment I've ever made, I've gotten so much use out of that $95.

If the hand thrower is working for you, by all means.

Oh, I go up to Pentiction quite a bit to stay with a friend, was thinking about this weekend, you wanna carpool or meet up if I do end up going?

Gotta be be careful on the shingle creek road. by the KVR Its on the reserve.

Look towards Carmi. Penticton Beverdale road to be exact. Get on the 201 go north Lots of open areas there. Try the north Ellis forestry road. lots of open space up there. Yeh I second what PC9 said about Penticton shooting sports mafia. To much power struggle up there.

thanks for the info guys. i6s1 - thanks for the tip on the spring loaded thrower, although one thing I like about the plastic ones (when they work) is that you can get some crazy angles, height, etc. Not sure if carpooling up there will work with the amount of people and gear we'll have in our car, but why don't you PM or email me with your number and maybe we can meet up there.

anyone ever tried trap with a handgun? I know it's 'frowned upon' but is it actually illegal? I'm thinking of taking up my new HK USP 9mm, and if it's isolated enough maybe banging out a few rounds at the discs (provided it won't get my PAL taken away).

It is very illegal to have a handgun if you're not at a range, and I'm almost positive that they won't allow shooting airborne clay at the range. Putting them in the dirt and shooting at them with handguns is totally allowed at my range.

I'll have to stick to paper targets at PoCo for now, just curious if anyone had tried it.

can anyone recommend any good gun shops in the Penticton area?
