Can someone tell me how to remove the handguard off the barreled reciever group?

use special plyers....or just use a very small scrwe driver....
remove a band next to receiver....
remove the handguard....

I hook a long (12") wire fish leader to the small hole in the band and use that to pull down untill the metal tabs are free from the indents in the barrel.

Zulumike's method is a great and simple (not to mention, cheap) method of doing such a removal.

Another way is to remove the gas cylinder plug, then unscrew the gas cylinder lock, slide the gas cylinder and front band forward. Then slide handguard forward. No gnashing of teeth that way.

Also you #### won't fall off...
