Just curious as to what size of groupings you’re getting with your handguns. I’m asking so I can compare my own results with others. I have a speculation that I need help filling in. If any of you could provide that would be greatly appreciated.

- Make/Model/Caliber

- Distance in meters or yards_____

- Rested or off hand

- Factory or reloads (if factory, please provide ammo brand and grain.

- Number of shots fired

- Size in inches of group.

This is not a competition as to who shoots the tightest groups so please answer honestly. I’m going to shoot next weekend and I was hoping to get some numbers to compare my results with to give myself a better judgment as to were my own skill set is. Some of you may even like to do the same. Of course all models of handguns are welcome to post results such as revolvers and .22 handguns.
 
I have to say almost all handguns are more accurate than most of the shooters. So the accurary is really up to how good the shooter is. I have STI Targetmaster 1911, Shadow 1, Shadow 2 (With RDS), Sig 1911 Stainless Eliste, S226 Stainless Elite, Sig P320 (with RDS), all in 9mm and when I do right, I can shoot them all in 1-1.5 inch group, 10 rounds at 10yds, with CCI Blazer or Federal Aluminum. I also have S&W 617, Ruger Mark IV competition and S&W Victory, in 22LR, when I do right, I can do 3 inch group with 10 rounds at 25yds, with CCI SV. All are off hand.
 
I agree on the shooter being more important or at least the vastly significant factor.

Unless one is looking to own a pistol for target match type shooting, which most do not, it's
not generally the measure most speak to.

There are simply far too many factors in the person pulling the trigger to try and compare guns/ammo alone.

Unless you use a vice and a bench and keep all else the same, it's damn near an impossible task.....a good shooter
will shoot damn near any gun very well once he/she get the feel.

The most important measure I feel to strive for is simply consistency......once I can get that working
in my favor, the rest is easy.
 
I tried out a new batch of ammo on Wed, but I was only concerned with the height of the group since I didn't have a definite POA. Only the height was set by resting the front of the gun on a 2x4. Left/right was tough to aim because aiming at the head of an IDPA target.

22 yards
front rested on a 2x4, grip sitting on a table.
My 147gr reloads
10 rounds
group size: height of 1-3/8", width of 2-3/8"
9 rounds were in a 1-3/8" circle, the one round at 3 o'clock was all me

I cannot do that on my own. :)

Perfect! I need more stats like this.
 
I am into bullseye one handed stance at 25 and 50 meters. Best shooting is fairly close a Hammerli Model 150 first and a 5.5 inch bull barrel Ruger Mk II second place.
Up until recently a S&W Model 64-3 was next in line accuracy wise but recent tests with a Whitney Navy in 36 cap and ball I think it's pretty much neck and neck with the Hammerli at 20 meters.
But our range is an outdoors setup only.

Edit: SK Rifle Match, American Eagle 158 grain lead RN, 15 grains FFF Swiss black powder .389 round ball

I have 4 centrefire pistols; three are semi autos and I shoot all three about the same.


- Make/Model/Caliber First three: Norinco 1911 5" .45 ACP; Norinco NP48 .40 S & W; Norinco NZ85B 9mm.

- Distance in meters or yards__20 yards___

- Rested or off hand: Off hand, two hand hold

- Factory or reloads: All reloads; 1911 200g lead SWC; .40 S & W 180 and 200 FCP TC; 9 mm 115 and 124 FCP RN.

- Number of shots fired: a few thousand in each pistol.

- Size in inches of group: I have shot groups around four inches on a really good day with each pistol; normally 8-10


- Make/Model/Caliber: Webley Enfield; 1930's break action .38 S & W

- Distance in meters or yards__20 yards___

- Rested or off hand: Off Hand, two handed hold.

- Factory or reloads: Reloads; 160 gr. lead

- Number of shots fired: <1000 over 40+ years

- Size in inches of group: 2-3 inches on a good day.


- Make/Mod/caliber: High Standard 6" Sport King .22

- Distance in meters or yards__20 yards___

- Rested or off hand: Off Hand, two handed hold

- Factory or reloads: Federal Automatch; white/black/red bulk box

- Number of shots fired: 1000s

- Size in inches of group: On a really good day; two inches or less.

Notes:

]While I sighted in all three of the semi-autos (the High Standard did not require any sighting in) from a sand bag rest, and shot very tight groups; I don't recall how big they were (2-3" +- if I recall correctly). The guns are better shooters than I am.

I have bad days where my groups can be closer to 12".

I generally shoot a bit tighter with both the .45 and the .40 than I do the 9mm; I have better grips on the way (CZ Factory rubber) and I hope this will make the difference.

The rough-tough Webley was my first hand-gun, and I was able to shoot it accurately and precisely right from the day I bought it. Same goes for the High Standard; built in the late 70's bought in the early 80's. A lot of pistols have came and went since then, but those two are keepers!
 
At odd times I have shot Hi Standard 22 Victors and Supermatic and Hammerli semi auto International into 3/8 to 1/2 inch groups at 20yrs or so, I have to use 2 hands these days with old joints, unless the gun is light
A 9mm Jericho, I just got while back ,I can do 1 inch easy, if I don't wobble too much.
A tuned 1911 norc. in 45 with a red dot will do about 3/4 inch , If I do my part.these are 2 hand hold off hand, no rest. A young guy shoot about 3/4" group with that gun (7 rnds)
38 sp colts, smiths I usually shoot 2 inch, but I could do better ,If I just used one instead of using 2or 3 , those are short barrels, 4 inch guns., best I ever shot was a 3 in 686, I could keep that in the black at 50yrds, ( 20 yrs ago)
 
1957 Colt Python .357 Magnum/.38 Special

20 yards measured.

Off hand, two handed weaver stance, single action slow fire.

.38 Wadcutter reloads, 2.7gr of Bullseye under a .356-.357 sized 148gr HBWC bullet lightly crimped.

25 rounds fired.

Sub 2.5 inch extreme spread. Most of the shots (~20) were into less than 1.5 inch.

That is nice Harry, don't have one of those any more, do have a real nice Colt model 357 .
I watched a retired RCMP member shoot a couple groups last night with a tuned model 19 , 6 in
in to the little corner sight in bulls, double action , about all like yours, at 15 yrds. It was a sight to behold, he did tell me that it helps
when you get paid to shoot guns

BTW, I had my eyes done about 5-6 yrs ago, before that, I could not see open sights longer than 2-4 in long barrels before that.
I did use a thing on my glasses with a adjustable aperture like a camera would make a huge difference, I could see the target and the sights, sort off.
When you are driving and you start to see 4 headlights when there should be two, get your eyes checked, it creeps up on you and don't realise how blind, deaf you are till it is fixed, ( still can't hear the Wife thou.)

I used to get paid to shoot back in the days, sadly theses days are gone. Still enjoy qualifying once a year on various firearms and teach rookies & qualifying personnel how to do it but the main shooting is now done on my time.

In DA the group would have been about half an inch bigger.
