handgun ban in Canada

who is the justice minister at this time? Do you mean the federal minister, or the provincial guy?

Well just watched the news (propaganda)
It is the Ontario minister who is asking the feds to have an outright handgun ban.
"Handguns serve no useful or social purpose in Canada"
Another great idea from someone who hasn't a clue about law inforcement.

Here we go agian!
Just sitting here with the tube on.
The justice minister is in Winnipeg.
A total handgun ban is once agian on the table.
Global Winnipeg news at 10:00 (Nov/14)

That was coming from Ontario's Justice Minister at the Justice Ministers conference in Winnipeg.

From the CBC - Ontario is also continuing to push the federal government for stricter limits on handguns, although it doesn't seem to have much support.

"Handguns are effectively banned in this country," Chomiak (Manitoba's Justice Minister) said. "We haven't discussed that."

Federal Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said he had other priorities.

"We want to ban criminals from being on the street who use handguns. That's why we're proposing mandatory jail terms for people who use handguns in the commission of crimes," Day told reporters on his way into the meeting, referring to the Tories' omnibus crime legislation that is currently before Parliament.

As long as it stays a Federal matter.... the idiots are limited in what they can do..

Another holy roller trying to gain brownie points with the "joe clueless" public.

I wish the public would get informed and put these guys in their place by knowing it's not the firearm that causes the crime, it's the criminal.

3 cheers for Stockwell Day!

want to lower crime rates- right to carry, when Flordia made it easier for people to get permits to carry consealed weapons anti-gun activists cried out `were going to have people killing eachother in the streets. and the streets are going to run red with blood`.... well that same year Flordia`s homicide rate dropped by half... it was the largest drop in history due to one law

If the crime statistics are viewed carfully you will learn that the states that don`t have the right to carry laws accutally have higher homicide rates then the ones that do

On the other side (Bans)

when England and Austraila banned handguns the crime rate did not drop... acctually arrmed robbries, B&E`s and agravated assaults skyrockted... reaching a all time high. (around the same year that the ban came into affect)

not to sure if it is Switserland or Sweeden (can`t rember now)but when the Police chief was interviewed about crime rates a forigen reporter asked him how many B&E they have a year, he replied `what are B&E`s.. probally because everybody has a gun in this country there isn`t a B&E problem...

When I was in school my professor (who was an ex toronto cop) and I had many heated debates about gun laws... but after I handed my essay on gun control I was able to change her mind (from the mindset that ONLY the Police should have handguns) a small victory I guess

lets take the gun registration act... a 2 billion dollar wast of time and money, it does absolutly NOTHING. first they told us that it was going to cost less then a million. but they keep pumping money into it... well now they know where a the responsible gun owners are. congadulations Liberals!!! you found all the people who are NOT going to commit a crime with a gun. Toronto Police is the largest police service in Canada with a total budget of under 1 billion a year. I have an idea, insteat of pumping money into a usless registration in an attempt to lower gun crime, hire more police officers to help lower ALL crime.

I guess the politicians believe that the crack dealer is going to turn in his gun because there is a ban in effect... what a joke!

This is just an attempt to gain support (votes) from a bunch of ignorant people who actually believe that a ban will lower crime rates even though it is proven that it does the opposite.

Sorry for ranting but this just ets me all worked up.

I'm beginning to like this Stockwell fellow.

Agreed. He is evolving into a sensible and steady force. The same can be said for Harper.

Every Swiss adult male is required to keep and maintain a firearm in their home. This is what we should be doing. Crime would practically disappear overnight. Take a read through this when you have some time.
