Handgun caliber SMG options?

I've always thought of pistol-caliber AR's as some sort of oxy-moron.

Really? Aren't the lowers proprietary for mags??
Here are the differences with 9mm AR Lower and rifle caliber
Mag Block
- you can get a RRA, C-Producs, Hahn to run "Colt" style mags or modified UZI
- you can use a VM Hytec that utilizes UZI mags
The exception being the Hahn dedicated model , all the Hahns, RRA etc install very easily. If it takes you more than 1min you are doing somthing wrong
Hammer - there are dedicated 9mm hammers but in reality you can have your bolt ramped . This way you can use any FCG you want. My 9mm upper runs on my CMC trigger , RRA 2 stage and Geissele lowers
The buffer is heavier as well but you can change that every easily ( or you can run a heavier buffer with the rifle uppers )

Here is one option you mentioned. The Famae Saf. They are available in 9mm and .40 S&W. The latter being more difficult to find. The .40 is the top one. I have a TP9 as well but I don't have a decent photo of it. It feels like a large Glock to me. Horrible trigger but very easy to hit plates quickly with it largely due to the ghost sights for me.
