I finally got off my butt and made arrangements to join a handgun club to get my ATT in Ontario.

I will be starting the club safety course on Sunday night and was wondering about what was covered?

I assume it will be a review of my Rpal course with the local club rules added in. The trainer I talked to said it will be more in depth than the CRFSC and run over six weeks.

Is there testing in the club level courses or is it more of an information and supervised shooting session?

I just did my CFSC/CRFSC in June so the information is fresh and I did well on the tests so I was looking for a little info on what to expect at the club training?

I did the club test at EOHC. It was a full day and included the basic safety stuff from PAL course, range rules, a short mulitple choice test and a shooting test (you couldn't fail unless you made a major safety violation). I don't even have my rpal and it was the first time that I shot a handgun & I passed. No need to worry.
 
The course is basically to ensure you fully understand range safety as well as range rules. It's setup so that you can prove your ability to be safe at the club. I suppose more than anything it's peace of mind to the club executive that you are not going to be a liability to the club. In Ontario it is the club that sponsors you for your ATT and unless you successfully prove that you can be trusted to be safe you won't get an ATT through that club.

I like to know what I am getting into... I passed my Rpal 98 on the practical so I'm not worried, but I have never shot a handgun before. Sounds like I will get some supervised trigger time.

I just wen through all of that at my club. I had alot of fun becuase they let us shoot everything from a beretta .22 to a 38 special+p for the accuracy test.
 
I requalified as a CSSA handgun safety instructor, and there is now an emphasis on basics of shooting skills(handgun). If you start hg shooting without at least some coaching, people often become discouraged and quit. I always spread info over several week period(club requires 3 meetings for membership). They get to shoot many different types(semi-auto rf, da and sa revolver, sa and da semi-auto cf). Then simple marksmanship, practical and written test, and they are able to make informed choices for their first purchase.
 
Went out to the range today to see the IPSC match. The club instructor that I spoke to on the phone was one ofthe shooters. Got the chance to chat with him and several other shooters.

The safety course should be no problem as I am familiar with the CRFSC and club rules. At times I felt like I was getting a bit of a quiz while we were talking. Also got some very good first buy info from all the guys I spoke with. Now I can't wait to get started and get done.
