Back when the Olds, AB range was open. The president at the time said that only police, ex police or retired police could wear a pistol/revolver in a holster on the range. Are you ready for this?........because they know how. As a result, I always carried my retirement badge and ID in my gun bag in case I was challenged by some range Nazi.

There are dipshlitz everywhere - huge surprise that you said "when the Olds, Alberta range was open".

And how many of these people have actually had occasion to draw their weapons in defence of themselves or anyone else? If they ever do, their lives would take an abrupt detour.
Yeah, I know the "Better to be tried by 12 than carried by six" mantra, but that would be little solace after bankruptcy and a prison term; not to forget a lifetime firearms ban.

Show me a victim and I will show you a crime.. I know many people who carry daily without the govt's permission.

Hmmmmm A guy drives his new Porsche down TDC's street at high speed passing a group of kids but hitting no one. He continues past a school and again no one is hit. Pulling a donut he makes another run and since those darn kids are in having cookies and milk, no one is hurt. No victim no crime. Stop complicating things Mr. Sharp! The smart guys see it the way it really is in black and white.

If the driver was competent I wouldn't care if he went past a school at 200kph. Pedestriatians and cyclists should be required to give the right of way to automobiles. Drivers have to pay the most to use the roads, but what do cyclists and pedestrians pay?

I know two people who have drawn down on someone, and both have yet to be charged... The law is the least of your concerns if you feel the need to defend your life. Prison beats death, and the chances of going to prison in a righteous shoot are low, there are more than a few cases of legal self defense(and defense of property) with a firearm. The same could be said for house insurance, sure its nice to know someone will cut a cheque after your house burns down, but what about all your personal effects that can't be replaced?? Your chances of a house fire are around a million to one, your chances of being a victim of a violent crime are much higher.

Agreed! The road is for CARS NOT PEOPLE OR BICYCLES. If a car leaves the road, the car is in the wrong. If a pedestrian gets hit on the road, the car is in the wrong, WTF?????

Tell us you're kidding, right?

And another brilliant contribution to the discussion. For those whose lack of knowledge about historical weapons is showing, that's "Sharps" as in Sharps rifles - NOT Sharpe of the literary Rifle Regiment fame.

Michael Jackson defense much?

Silly goose. You missed the joke completely. It was in fact meant to be an insider aimed at hercster because I thought he was quoting that scene. (He was in quotes)

At any rate, the discussion is about as brilliant as debating why we're allowed cars that can go over the speed limit.

So I gotta say I find this thread a little ridiculous

We teach holster certification at our club and anyone who thinks it is about wearing a plastic holder on your waist and it ends there is an idiot.

If you are using a holster, chances are you are using it as part of a group of holster qualified shooters. This means you need to understand an advanced set of range commands, proper draw, load and unload techniques, movement protocols, etc. Wearing and using the holster is about 10% of what you need to demonstrate to proved competent holster usage and saying that ACTS and PROVE covers it just shows how completely ignorant you are on the subject. Buying a holster doesn't qualify you to use it safely and effectively anymore than buying a precision rifle makes you a sniper.

There is nothing exclusive or elite about this and there is nothing simple about wearing and using a holster.
