handgun license??

you need a PAL that alloows you to acquire a restricted firearm. it takes a seperate safety course (or you can challenge the test). It's not hard to do.

Just a reminder. To buy a hanfgun all that you would need is a Pal and membership to a range. We are not allowed to carry hand guns in Canada. When transporting to the range it must be double locked at all times and you will require an Authorization to Transport document from your province's Cheif firearm officer.

Depending on where you live. You don't legally need a range membership to buy a handgun. Oh, and some people ARE allowed to carry a handgun in Canada, you just have to be "special". Your PAL must be a restricted PAL to purchase, trigger locked in a locked case to transport, and some provinces issue long term ATT's to the gunowner, not through any club. As I see you reside in ON, you will have different rules you must comply with to make the gun Nazis happy. - dan

Don't need to be a member of a club in Ont. to purchase a restricted. Head over to williams arms in port perry (http://www.williamsarms.net) because you're close. Pay for the handgun, they'll phone the CFC and the CFC will ask ya "Collector or Target Shooter", you answer Target Shooter, "Which club do you belong to". Answer: "None, I intend to join *some club*"

Transfer goes through no probs in a few days, with an ATT so you can take it home. Don't forget to buy a locking case for it while you're at the store (so you'll have something to take it home in), and a trigger lock too. The cable lock it'll prolly come with sucks.

Pickup some ammo while you're there. Keep the mags loaded with ammo in the travel case but not inserted in the gun. A loaded mag in the gun is illegal, considered loaded, even if a round is not chambered.
