Well....I've decided to buy my first handgun. Never really had much interest untill lately, so I havent been paying attention:redface:.

Anyway, what auto would you suggest for me (Make/model/caliber)? Looking for range trips/SHTF combo, like capacity (after drilling the rivets when the zombies attack:p ) and want a quality firearm without dropping 2 grand.

Thanks!

If you can't make it to a range or to add to the selection. Go to your local gun store and grip each gun you can find. What fits you the best and what feels comfortble in your hand.

I'd recommend a Ruger semi-auto in .22 LR. They're accurate and reliable, and you can afford to shoot it lots - and that's the key to handgun proficiency. No use buying an expensive centerfire that you shoot a hundred rounds a year, and never get proficient with.

The second benefit is that you'll never lose money on a QUALITY rimfire. I doubt you could ever shoot one enough to wear it out.

I buy gun base on the reputation, quality and how it look and feel within my budget limit. Many people will recommand a .22 or 9mm and they are very good choice. having said that all major brand name gun are all have their fans.

I like 9mm because it's cheap, available and if you use your sights you can bring down paper targets and zombies alike.
From the movies I've seen, zombies don't move too fast so they are easy to hit.
The feel of the grip is the deciding factor for me. I had my fingers replaced by sausages so single stacks and hi-powers suit me best.

Personally, if I was starting out again, and I was set on a semi-auto, 9mm would be a good choice if one wasn't going to reload. I'd opt for either a CZ75B or BHP.

If I planned to reload it would be a single stack .45ACP. Probably start out with a Norinco 1911A-1. Higher end I'd maybe consider an STI, S&W or Para SSP.

If it was a wheelgun then I'd opt for a S&W 686 as to take advantage of the .357 Mag / .38 Spl combo.

'Course all handgunners should have a .22 pistol as well. Ruger MkII, MkIII or 22/45 would fit that bill.

But whatever you chose, you won't be able to stop at just one... ;) :D

I like my new Steyr, it's smaller than a Glock17 and has less muzzle flip due to the super low bore axis and great ergonomics. Cool sights...

Beretta and Sig are my suggestions for a metal gun

Always say you can't really go wrong with a 1911... They are reliable, customizable, easy to maintain, fairly accurate and pretty much fit everybody... And you can get them in most calibers (9, 40, 45, 38 sup, 38 spec, 10mm and the list goes on!)

If you want some more fun than a 357 mag is a must. you can shoot lite 38 sp, 38+p to very hot 357mag loads. Reload them is a heck of fun. I have a 9mm CZ 75B but doesn't kick much so I still shoot my 686 more.

I had the same problem. Which one to choose...

Features, value and design are all very important for my decision to buy... I went for the XD 40 and I couldn't be happier with it. Go to a store and ask to see how it breaks down without tools. Check all the features rolled into one gun... among them the ambi mag release, stainless mags, chamber loaded indicator, firing pin indicator. The XD wins on price AND quality. You could buy a sig or glock, but you can buy 500rds and a new XD40 and still get change back for the same money. It was voted NRA handgun of the year too. I got the two tone green/black.

I'm told that LE say 9mm bounces of windshields where .40 does not (and for ranges that use windshields as approved targets ;) ) and I just like a little bigger kick. The ammo isn't much more than 9mm given that it is the LE calibre of choice now.

Grab a glock with the magazine out and pinch the grip and watch the thin plastic of the handle flex. That's way to thin/cheap for me.

Next on my list is a Ruger GP-100 .357/.38spl (or a used 686) and a browning buckmark camper .22. Both excellent value also.

Ceska zbrojovka CZ 75b,16/10rd mag.you can even .40cal mags in the 9mm;)

I have the .40cal one,its great. at first "I felt "the trigger was to long of a pull, but after trying a friends 1911 I've come to appreciate it more.and the slide is kind of small, it runs in side of the frame.thats about the only fault as I see it.

Or a Browning HP if you can afford it.If /when I get a 9mm it'll be a Browning.
