I am looking to build a rack for my handguns that will sit on the top shelf of my safe. I have the ability to work with wood or metal. I would really appreciate some input as to a design to go with. What do you use? Any pics or good ideas out there?

Try and search for a pic, or maybe he'd be so nice as to post one here of Rudy_H's safe, I believe he's crammed more guns into into the least amount of space I've ever seen in a set up that won't cause them to touch each other in any bad way.

Have a look at some of the bulls eye boxes. Little "U" shaped holders for the barrel that are split in the middle, a bolt connects all the halves so when turn the knob on the bolt the "U"s clamp the barrels. The pistols thus stand up right, barrels horizontal inside a little tray. Easy to take tray in and out and are not about to knock over or drop any individual pistols.

My original idea was to make little cubby holes but I am starting to stray away from that. I have seen a few that the barrel rests in a cut out and stands the gun up. I think I am leaning towards something like that. If anyone has some pics of their setup I would appreciate it.

Not the most elegant solution but I found a bunch of these in my office's disposal bin. They work great, for now.....

ruffbird, very nice!!! Eventually, I'm going to build one like it but I'll have the barrels pointed forward so my pistols and revolvers are oriented like in the pic.

An expandable storage system for your pistols. One rack holds three pistols, or take advantage of the modular construction to expand capacity by adding more racks. Made from high-density, closed-cell, nonreactive foam with a suedelike surface to protect the finish of your handguns. Rack does not absorb moisture and will not react with lubricants or solvents.
Dimensions: 8-1/4"W x 7-1/2"D x 6"H.

I also have some of the "Power Aisle 3-Gun Pistol Rack"
and they even work great at the range if you are out shooting multiple guns. The only down side I found is that they are just not quite wide enough when using combination trigger locks. I am thinking of widdening them using the 1/4" threaded rod option mentioned in the papper work that came with them.

I ended up buying a 6 gun wire rack by versatile rack. It was shown in an earlier post. I am really happy with it. Hods all sorts of different styles of guns very nicely.

I'm looking for something similiar for the top shelf of my gun safe.
I'll have to measure the height and check on the rotating one. But... I think with the firearms it'll be too tall.

The issue I have with the Marsters one, is that I really don't want anything in the barrel or even near the "crown" of my pistols. Even if it is plastic.
