Handgun ranges in Toronto

I'm in the same boat as you! I live in the very core of downtown toronto and is a MAJOR Pain in the ass to go to a range...

Let me know if there are ranges near DowntownToronto....So sad that Hart House closed down, I'm a UofT student and live 2 blocks away form there!
 
Wasn't the CSSA challenging the city to the Ontario Municipal Board, does anyone know what happened with that? Also, elections coming up, start writing letters if you're in the city.
 
Understand your pain...I live in TO as well and have to drive close to a hour to get to the range.

Having said that, I'm looking at joining The Grange North of Markham. They are expensive, but their indoor facility is state of the art and the staff is friendly.

Mini15 is correct and I appreciate his support of the club.

I am on the BOD of the Sportsmens Club Galt and responsible for the indoor range.

Just to clarify we did not have a contamination problem, we have a ventilation system problem and without a functional ventilation system there would be a higher than acceptable air born lead level during active shooting. As such we immediately and unexpectedly shut the range down with no notice. Not ideal but member safety comes 1st.

There wasn't a simple fix and we decided to opt for a complete new air handling system with the ability to preheat the fresh air and a hefty price tag as such it took time to get quotes and approve funding all of which is now done. The club has shown its commitment both to the indoor range and members safety by approving this work as quickly as was possible. Completion is expected mid March and when done we will have a very safe heated indoor range.

We do have one critical ammo restriction, no steal jacket or steal core ammo, this rules out some surplus ammo but other than that no restrictions. Yes we have a safety program and probation system that some may feel is overkill but to those who are invested in the sport its no big deal.

We shoot a lot of fun disciplines like ODPL and Three Gun to name a couple but best of all the people are great (at least the I shoot with anyway).

We are accepting new members and with 260 Acres, Handgun, Rifle, Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Archery and fishing sections and a game farm it is an amazing club with a lot to offer anyone looking to enjoy our sport.

Yes Galt has had it's lows recently. Since about October the indoor handgun range has been closed due to lead contamination. This was caused by people doing something so bat #### retarded I won't even bother explaining it.

Galt has an Archery section, clay section (trap, skeet, etc...), rifle (non-restricted), clay trail (like a nature trail with clays that you shoot as you move along) and handgun section.

The handgun section has an outdoor facility AND an indoor facility, outdoor has a 25, 30, 50, 100 and 200 yard range, there is also a 25 yard side range in which you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Outdoor was being rebuilt this year at the same time the indoor closed down so there was a point a few months back where you could only shoot at the side pit. But everything outdoor is open and up and running again as of now.

Indoor is scheduled to re-open in March. It's a decent range with max distance 25 yards. While the outdoor you can't shoot past 2200hrs the indoor is by key card access and is open 24/7 365. Yes as I night shifter I go shoot at 3am regularly.

After one year of membership you can shoot restricted rifles on the outdoor handgun ranges. The rifle section is backlogged on applications so you can't get in, and it's only for non-restricted so as an AR15 guy I could care less.

Just like any Ontario club they do have the RPAL rehash lesson, probationary period and 9 probationary shoots before they allow you full member status and get you your ATT. If you want to draw from a holster you do need to take their course.

I think the above is stupid as all hell but it's the best your getting anywhere remotely close to the GTA. You can shoot without RSO, you can do all the rapid fire in the world, use whatever targets you want, whatever "tactical" guns you want and any ammo that isn't AP or tracers.



Anything in proper "416" Toronto or true GTA is like that. I'm not going to single anyone out and get in some kind of pissing contest with somebody who is a member from whatever club I call out.

All I know is the club I go too allows shooting pretty much any ammo, any type of targets, shooting at any time, shooting without an RSO, shooting as fast as you like, etc... And guess what, there hasn't been an accident.


Clubs in the GTA bar most of the activities I just stated under the pretext of safety.

I'll agree with you on 2 points...1)They are expensive (but convenience trumps that for me) and 2)the staff are friendly.
State of the art...not so much (anymore). I always find at least one lane with a broken target advance/return box. The ventilation is terrible. Within 1/2hr I'm ready to leave. I don't go near the place during the humid summer months. The portable fans are useless. There is GSR and grime all over the back unloading bench area. I'm such a demanding whiny member...

I don't think it overly demanding to expect top quality conditions from a business that charges top $$$.

I found the air quality bad & the place too busy due to their "Paying Guest" policy.

Every time I get reminded of that new I hate the liberals more (David Miller especially.) I live right freggin beside UofT because I'm an UofT student!!

If they hadn't closed the range in 2007 (after 88 years of accident-free history), I could of gone there every day. Probably already paid for in my tuition too!
 
But think of all the lives David Miller has saved. That UofT range and union station must have been responsible for 30 or 40% of our murder rate.

Everyone knows UofT students are some of the most criminally violent members of society. Thanks to millers leadership we've been saved from those menaces. You can tell the policy is working. Just look at the stats the numbers don't lie.
