Handgun reloading

Hi guys im fairly new to reloading. Have been reloading my hunting rifles for about 2 years now. recently I just purchased a Ruger SR9. My grandpa who helps me with this stuff said he was told handgun loads are different and more difficult to work with than rifle cartridges. If this is true in what ways?

i would think handun loading is easier. no fire forming brass, no brass trimming. other than that i think everything is the same. but im by no means a pro so dont take this as fact.

Alright well thats good news. I didn't see how their could be much of a difference but better to be safe than sorry. I enjoy reloading though so I would like to keep doing it. Any recommendations for bullets, grain etc?

Straight wall cases are easier to load. I use 115 or 124 grain bullets and 4.2 grains of Bullseye

Pistol is easier, BUT...


with pistol it is easy to double charge the case and destroy the gun. With rifle, if you tried to double charge the mess would tip you off to the mistake. With pistol powder, especailly a fast powder, 2 charges would not be noticed.

For this reason a prefer medium speed pistol powders like IMR7625.

Your gun will shoot well with 124 gr lead bullets. Cheap, too. Load them at about 1 grain under max for accuracy and less stress.
