Handgun shipping costs.

Canada Post's own policies require fire-arms to be shipped regular parcel, or Expedited, with signature on delivery. Not that hundreds of people don't use XpressPost, successfully, but it is technically contrary to their agreements, and may void any claims you could have to make.

You can access Expedited service by registering for a VentureOne™ card as a small business. A very, very small one if you don't actually have a business. Exp. has a tiny savings, and includes the base amount of insurance coverage.

Price depends on origin and destination (including the tax being charged as of the destination), and distance; the more remote the more expensive. If the gun (and packaging) are very heavy, say a Desert Eagle with a pile of magazines double-boxed, it'll be more. Also boxes over certain dimensions, or in odd shapes, get a surcharge. About twenty bucks or so, over-all.

Hey thanks guys. I live right in the center of the country and am considering selling one of my guns. I've never bought or sold one through the mail and wondered about how much it might cost me if I included the shipping.

around $30 -35 for a shipped and insured handgun, signature too.
$17 for shipping, around the same for insurance, $1.50 for the insurance.
More or less.

Canada Post has a shipping estimate calculator here that'll give you an idea of what you'd be dealing with. I've shipped and received a bunch of guns and always used Canada Post.

I budget about $25 max and I've yet to screw myself on a shipping charge. I just sent a .22 rifle boxed up all the way to Nova Scotia for $32. Rates are pretty good. For the pistols I just ship whatever is cheapest and get the signature, not usually insurance.
