Handgun suggestions

Start with a revolver, they're simpler and safer. You have to take action to make them ready to fire each time, no automatically loading the net round into the chamber as cocking of the hammer. I'll even go so far as to say a single action revolver is best for learning. My preferred brand of single action revolvers is Ruger. My preferred caliber for a first gun or a first handgun is the 22 Long Rifle. Now Ruger offers four (4) 22 rimfire single actions based on the excellent Single-Six and three (3) based on the Bearcat. I own two Ruger Single-Sixes, one blued and one in Stainless steel. Remember the Single-Six comes with an extra 22 Magnum cylinder too.

This question has been asked a million times in different ways.
You need to give us more info than that to help.
Type of gun, caliber, purpose ( target or competition), dollar amount you want to spend, your shooting experience, do you reload.....etc.

Hold some different models and see what fits your hand. Get that gun in a caliber you can afford as the bigger the bullet the more expensive. Because the best value in a pistol is the one you can afford to use and feels good in your hands.

Depends on budget and level of skill with handguns. Also is it a range toy or practice for competition, as others said more information is needed...

I would say a .22lr of some kind, maybe a 9mm Glock if you're not totally new to handguns, I'd also have to say get your hands on as many different types as you can before and even better if you can get a chance to try them first.

The best gun is the one that fits your hand the best and budget too. Ammo cost is one thing to factor in also.

My first handgun was a Cz-01 Shadow. Fits comfortably in my hands and is great to shoot.
Get what appeals to you, a hobby should be something that interests you. Revolvers and Glocks have never appealed to me.

Don't overlook the tokarev.

Was going to mention the old toke as well, good cheap starter gun for sure.

First pick for myself was a Beretta 92, always loved the look of that design, and cheap enough to shoot. Esp now with all the 92S's that have come into Canada recently, great handguns

For the first handgun, I'd say a plastic striker fired semi-auto. Relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain. I'd go for a range kit from a good, but not pricey manufacturer and go for the less expensive 9mm ammo (you can shoot more). The M&P9, Springfield Arms XDM, Ruger American, Sig Sauer P320. If you prefer .22LR (which is even cheaper than 9mm) there are lots of choices, including Colt 1911 style guns that are quite reasonably priced.

Since you don't mention revolvers, I'll only say that a .357 can also shoot less expensive (and hard on your wrists) .38 Special. You can get anything from .22LR to .50 but the bigger cartridges are also expensive. You might consider a 9mm Luger revolver from Smith & Wesson or Alpha project.

I'd stay away from the more expensive Glocks, CZ, Sig, Beretta, Walther, etc. until you really get an idea of what you want to do with it and what you like. You can spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on handguns. A good range will have an assortment of guns to try and if you make friends, you can ask to try their guns (provide your own ammo if you can).
