Handguns...worth the effort?

It is worth the hassle. Go for it. As others have stated, the man not really wanting you to have them is motivation in itself.:D

I got my RPAL after the whole 12.6 deal. My cousin convinced me it should get in the game to be possibly grandfathered against future action. I now shoot my handguns and AR quadruple my non-restricteds. You won't regret getting your RPAL and owning restricteds, but you might regret not getting it someday. I guarantee it...

Get it before RPAL is not allowed anymore. Took me over 30 years of my life to realize we can even own handguns as a Canadian citizen. I just assumed we couldn't and needed to be in security/LE to own one. Most of my non gun friends were shocked too we could own them and thought it was cool. lol

There is nothing illegal about owning a handgun.

In fact, many would say it is the one firearm that was totally designed for self-defence.

That being true, you have a natural right to self defense.

Rights are like muscles...they need exercise in order to remain vibrant.

Exercise your rights...get a handgun.

Besides the above...take joy in the fact it pisses liberals and government bureaucrats off knowing you have one and they can do nothing to prevent you owning one.

even if you buy the cheapest handgun possible in terrible shape, it still help swell our numbers and makes us look stronger- one more voice, if you will- but who STOPS at ONE handgun?

I am stocking up now, while I still can. There may come a time when you may no longer purchase firearms, and the only ones you may keep are the ones you already have.

There is a lot of bureaucracy involved, but once you get it, you realize that it's definitely worth it.

Go out and get a gun.. and tell your friends to do so too.

So sorry you are in Toronto and were subjected to all that left wing crap. Most of the rest of us knew about handguns early even in ontario.

bought my first handgun at twenty

Yeah! I grew up in Toronto. Never even thought once it's possible to own handgun until I went shooting with my cousin in California almost 2 years ago and it was so cool. I finally did my own DD and load and behold any good citizen can own handguns.

I knew rifles were okay, but I wanted to whole nine yards before applying. Started last April and finally fired my first shot on our own soil in October.

Those who want RPAL should apply for it now. The sooner the better. You don't want to risk the chance that RPAL may become prohibited one day.

Here is a brief overview of the process. Take RPAL course, Pay for RPAL course, Mail test results and RPAL app. to miramichi with payment. wait, wait more, get new PAL/RPAL in mail. Join gun club (can be done before or after purchasing handgun), Go to gun store buy gun, wait for temp. ATT. Pick up gun take it home, Clean and fondle it at home until full membership and LTATT comes, then enjoy shooting.

First of all, all upgrades are free by now... so if you pass your exam, all you have to do is to send an application to get one.

In order to keep your RPAL OK for renewal, you need to shoot it once in a while, e.g. you can join the club or be a guest at the club or take it out of Canada to shoot. ATT is prima facie proof that you shot it, but to get ATT you need to provide reason.

Get one while you can. When the libs ban them we will all get
Grandfathered and maybe just maybe get to keep them???

That's a s**tty attitude to have. Maybe the all mighty liberals will allow us lowly peasants to keep the objects we spent our hard earned money on, which will then not be allowed out of the house.
