Has anyone from Alberta ever hunted the Handhills. Many years ago, I read a Western Sportsman article about the decent whitetail bucks in that area. Yesterday, I was driving home from Kindersley and decided I'd take a detour through there, pretty nice!

Hand Hills can be ok. Access can be tough. Better White hunting north of there. Good for moose, great mules.

Are you talking about the Consort and Veteran area? Not so long ago, I drove up to Veteran on a job, as I drove, I thought that this had to be good mulie country. No sooner did I think that that I saw 4 bucks, one wore a respectable rack. I've been hunting the same ol' area for quite a while, it's been good to me, but I'd like a change of scenery.

I live and hunt in the Handhills. Good for mule, okay for whitey. Seems like the whites like the N end and then on east. There are better places for white tails and the jackass road hunters around here have got us shut out of thousands of acres. Too many guys with lifted 4x's spinning donuts and cutting fences down and not bothering to even ask if they can go. Most guys up there don't mind if you ask, but some of them are fed up and have locked thier stuff down. I'd go north to the Tolman-Rumsey-Rowley-Imperial Ranch-Byemoor area- ther's a big band up there in WMU's 158-166 that has some good bucks. I have trouble filling my antlered WT tags on the s end of the handhills.

My neighbour owns several ranches, one of which is in the Dorothy area. There are big bucks over there. He also has a ranch down by Warner (106), big mulie bucks over there. Problem is I still have to wait to succeed at drawing one, I should have good enough priority for next year. He also has a ranch in 310 and in 312. The 312 ranch we hunt for elk, moose. It holds good whitetail but not wall hangers - which is what I'd like get after this year and is basically the reason I posted this. Here's a buck that was taken by another hunter last year on the Dorothy ranch. Not spectacular by any standard, but respectable.

I can't comment on Hand Hills but the Drumheller area and east of there have some nice whitetails. I took a 165 WT just southeast of Rowley a couple of years ago.
