I just read on Graybeard Outdoors (the best forum for handi guns) that the handi rifles will probably be discontinued. Thanks Remington:mad:

Remington has designed and built some good guns - I've had a couple of them. But I hate that company.

Now I have to put all other procurement on hold while I try to secure a SC1-414 before they stop. Gravel Agency told me they won't bring them to Canada, so it's going to cost twice what it should.

Handis don't have the market they used to. Everyone wants a bolt action or semi these days.

Though, maybe we could convince them that rather than shutting down, they should finally stop being stupid about Canadian support.

Holy crap...Hoyt & others will have a fit! Fear not gang, there's a ton of them out there to keep the tinkerers happy.

Freedom Group is a piss poor name for a bunch of turds that care zero for the customer!

So far the only thing confirmed is the cancellation of the barrel accessory program for the USA (we never had it), and the end of factory warranty repair (we never had that either... depot only now for the USA)... also, they have apparently dropped all wood stock models for current production, synthetic only... Boyd's will be happy to hear that.

Wad an azz...

Too bad if it turns out to be true. Its pretty tough for a break action single shot to compete against the low priced bolt guns now in the market place. Those just looking for any cheap hunting rifle will choose the bolt gun, and there probably aren't enough dedicated Handi Rifle enthusiasts out there to keep Remington's bean counters happy. That said, the pictures of Hoyt's rifles opened my eyes to the possibilities for the Handi Rifle platform. I had an early H&R Topper in .22 Hornet, but the heavy 16 pound trigger was disconcerting, and once I sold it, I never looked back. The idea of a short light switch barrel single shot is intriguing though; at one time I envisioned a rifle based on the Contender with a folding pistol grip buttstock, chambered for the 6mm or 6.5 TCU, for use as a survival gun in helicopters and light aircraft. Today I might opt instead for the 6.8 SPC or a .300 Blackout, but I never pursued the idea.

All kidding aside, I think the previous poster who said it was the cheapy bolt guns that would take up the HandiRifle maket was correct.

I missed a local H&R 30/30 - 20ga combo last week. I would have bought that in a heartbeat.

Thanks Cub, that about sums it up!

Sorry Hoyt ;)

That only sums it up for those who don't care about this particular niche... but you all should be thankful for the hordes of new and young enthusiasts introduced to shooting sports by this particular rifle... and please don't compare it to the current run of crappy bolt actions being pimped to this "fast food" society...

Sorry Hoyt, I highly doubt it has been "hordes" of new shooters buying into the Handicapped rifle.

I have been around lots of new shooters around here and the handicapped rifle is non existent.
