Hands on with the FAMAE 542

Oh you shill

I wish somebody would start paying me to do these already

I just like the opportunity to try new stuff!

As to felt recoil: it's a .308.

They don't hurt like a shotgun slug. But if your like me they're not exactly "double-tap" stable either.

And yes, the echo is .308 indoors. These are better suited to an open grassy field with a few hundred yards!

We'll have to wait and see about that though ;)

In the meantime why not try optics?

Why does R Taylor appear to make a gas system adjustment at 1:43?

Looks promising. How is it on brass for those looking to develop loads? Is it as hard as the Swiss Arms Classic line was reported to be? Typical ejector port scuff?

Testing the 0-1-2 gas settings. It is hard on all .556mm brass and dents the mouth on about 50% of the 7.62mm brass.

Maybe it's just me but until this whole swiss arms thing is settled there is no way I'm going to trust another 54X rifle. Especially another very expensive one. Don't get me wrong that's the coolest M14 I've seen in a while but still.... cou:

Reasonable, but consider this: This is a 540 and there's no doubt about that - the Chileans haven't done anything noteworthy to change the design of the 540 rifles that they built for us. The 540 is not prohibited by name and the RCMP can't reasonably argue that it is.

However, with regards to the Swiss Arms, there is doubt (from the RCMP, at least) that the PE90 is totally a 540 variant rifle. They seem to be convinced it's a 550 series (or at least has parts from a 550) and therefore prohibited.

So, these rifles should be good no matter what happens with the Swiss Arms.

Does the bipod come off as easily as the Swiss Arms'? I presume it is not free floated so that's probably the first thing I will do to it.
Thanks for the pics.

The PE90 bipod is not all that stable to shoot off of in my opinion, especially on rough ground. I wonder if this bipod is more stable? My guess would be no. Nice rifle though.
