It's my son's 6th birthday in about a week, and I figured since i got my first rifle at 6, it was time for his! My dad and I split on a Savage Cub. Single shot .22s/l/lr, accutrigger, etc. I put on a bushnell trophy 3-9x40 that i've been saving for a special occasion, as well as an ncstar "precision" grade 6-9 bipod. This thing is TINY. Small enough that I'd barely be able to shoot it.

He hasn't seen it yet, but his birthday's on the weekend so hopefully we can get him out to the range and shooting within minutes of him recieving it :) It's a far cry from the cooey 39 I got when I was 6, but I hope he'll like it!!

That'd be wierd, you're older than me :)

Forgot to mention, this gun comes with a peep sight as opposed to an open leaf sight! Unfortunately, it's REALLY low and you can't see past the scope rings! I'm going to take them to school and mill a channel in them so you can use the peep OR the scope :) This is SERIOUSLY a cool little gun. Only 229 at epps, though i think i got the last one!

What a great Dad and Grandad! Way to go...start em young.

Teach him early to vote Conservative too.

BTW, my 3 yr old grandson has a Savage MKIGY waiting for him already.:D Got it for him when he was 18 months old.

I've been looking at those kid sized .22's, I need to buy one, my daughter is 6 and growing up fast, oh thats 6 months old................ never to early to start looking.

I got a Cooey 600 for my 6 yr old, but the short bolt requires a bit of muscle to shove forward to close, against the spring pressure. Does the Savage firing pin gain tension on the slide forward, or on the downward push of the bolt knob? I think my boy could handle the push down better than the forward. (did that make sense?) On the plus side, if I have to close the bolt each time, it makes for VERY close supervision :)

Nice looking rifle! Many happy shots!

That's awesome,it'll stick with him for life. I still have the old lake field .22 my dad bought me. I can remember it very well. Used to use his old coey, to learn with. Dad didn't like us using his BRNO back then for some reason. One day my brother and I got off the school bus to find dad got each of us brand new lakefield repeaters, one just a little dirrerent than the other. Man, I can still feel the excitement when I think about it. There were a few more that followed over the years, and I have each and every one of them still, and can tell you when I got them:)
Enjoy!
