I'm hanging on to this because it was my dad's favourite rifle.
I remember the day he showed it to me. "Bolt action repeater with telescopic sight" he said with smiling enthusiasm.
I also remember that as the time we started going through more ammunition!
Anyway, the magazine turned up today and now that the gun is complete I feel the need to make it work like a new one.
The barrel is not stamped with ammunition requirements and I'm wondering if it was ever meant to shoot LR.
A quick search turned up that the LR cartridge came to be in 1887 and this rifle is about 75 years old according to the local gun guy.
The Weaver sight is cool in that it is old but still works OK. A tiny bit foggy but quite usable.
I had little trouble sighting it in, the screw adjusters are a far cry from the 1/4MOA click adjusters that have spoiled me even on the cheapo scopes, these screws make a huge difference at 30 yards and need to be turned carefully! I sighted it in pretty close because Dad used to shoot gophers out the bedroom window with it and beyond that I'd rather have iron sights anyway.
It shoots OK but has some issues I'd like to resolve.
I'll be asking the Gunsmith guys some questions when I get time to play with it.
