Happy thanksgiving all

This year has been kinda of a write off hunting wise due to work & rescue commitments, but I had TG weekend planned for a few months as I knew this would be probably my only time out this year. So I packed up the gear & kids and took them to see grandpa and grandma. We showed up in time for supper and made a plan for the following morning to head out to our good old faithful spots. The following morning we were walking the ridges and calling at first light, dad had one coming into to him but I just seen grouse (wow there's a lot this year). The morning we ended up empty handed so went went home for lunch and a warm up, then headed out on quad. The usual trails were promising with lots of moose sign and bear.

So we scouted for the best place to call for later in the afternoon, and got a few grouse along the way

We ended up decided on a spot were we've filled our tag's more then a few times, so we separated about 1/2km apart and started a call sequence. About a half hour I got an answer, few minutes later I heard a quad getting close so I sat and waited, the quad rode to me we had some small talk, I told him I was in the middle of calling and had a bull coming in he said ok, good luck and carried on but stopped about 200 yards away and started shooting grouse f:P: so this kinda pissed me considering we just spoke but what ever to each his own. So I made my way to were my dad was calling, with not much luck. I told him about the guy I ran into, he seen him to and had a few choice words about what happened. I decided to go back where I was as I did have one answering. When I got back low and behold there was a cow eating willows about 300 yards away, I decided to let out a few grunts and in an instant the place lit up I had a huge bull come running towards me but not a decent shot. Then a small bull ran out to where the cow was with a perfect 300yrd broad side shot so I took it, it dropped where it stood with a perfect double lung, it got up a few seconds later, took a few steps and expired. The big bull & cow stood around wondering what the heck just happened, I wish my dad would of hurried his ass up cause we could of had a double bull day, although afterwards I was glad we just had one to gut skin and quarter, one was enough especially in the dark. Sorry about the crappy field pics but we were running out of day light. Not my biggest bull but will be a great eater.

So far this was one of the most memorable hunting trips I've had in a while, getting my bull on first day out, spending time with the old man and the kids. Hopefully we can get dad his bull before I head back to work.

The young bull I harvested is about a 3year old wich side of three I can't tell. The big bull was probably a 6-7ish year old, he would of definetly been close if not larger then my biggest which has a 48" spread. Gear I was using is a cz 550 chambered in 30-06, topped with a vortex viper 3-10x50 and federal premium 180gr noslers.

Cheers
