Hard case options for RPR type rifles

This is a reasonable priced case comes in three different config's. seems pretty tough bit heavy but then they all are.

Took a look at one today at lunch, I'm going to spend abit more and get a Pelican 1750, $5000+ kit deserves maxprotection. Thanks for the heads up though. It would be a great hunting rifle case for airline travel though and the price right now is great.

Depending where you are from I got a 1750 in the ee, 250obo.

I'm looking to get a Pelican for my AI AE with Viperskins. I see some people can fit their rifles in with the bolt in.

Does Pelican make a case that can fit an AICS stock folded with the bolt in? I thought I might be able to get away with a thicker but shorter and lighter case. Any disadvantages to that?

Let me know if you find a shorter Pelican case that can hold the AI AE with the stock folded...the gun is about 36" in length folded...so maybe a 38" or 40" case will fit?

It would be a lot handier with a shorter case. A full length 1750 case is really hard to fit in a small car.

Just google pelican cases and look on their website at specs, they make shorter cases and also deeper/thicker ones that should work with a folded stock and the bolt in.

I think this is the 1720:

I just found the picture online. I was hoping more people had used it.

Do you leave the bolt in with your 1750? AI bolts stick out a lot compared to the rifles so that's why I'm wondering. Taking it out all the time sounds like a good way to lose it.

I leave my bolt in, all I did was cut a notch in the top foam about halfway through and the bolt knob just pushes into the notch, if I ever change my mind I can just flip the top foam as it isn't cut all the way and you would never know.

I think I found one. The Pelican Storm iM3220 is 6" shorter and 3.25" thicker. The Storm version of the 1720 and 1750 is also 0.75" thicker so they may even work. There is a Canadian Pelicam supplier that sells the cases much cheaper than gun stores too.

I am just measuring my AE now and noticed that my bolt handle only sticks out about 1" past my windage knob so it can stay in.

My rifle measures about 3.75" from outside of parallax knob to outside of bolt handle with the stock extended. It measures 5.5" from outside of folded stock to outside of the bolt handle.

I'm thinking neither the bolt handle or the stock needs much protection so maybe a 6" wide case would do it.

Does anyone know if the measurements for Pelican cases are inside or outside dimensions?

Plano cases have filled my needs. The large double scoped case has come up on sale at Cabelas a few times a year. The last time I got one it was $169 a year ago. They are decent cases for my Coyote, Timberwolf, MDT and Cadex builds, and my Modern Varminter. Pelican cases are nice, but I just can't justify that price point.

Jokes aside I felt kind of foolish just asking that. I may as well have asked what color to get. I think I will get one pretty soon, a 1750.

Not a foolish question at all.

I've got a Cabela's Armour Extreme long gun case which is solid as the day is long, but isn't quite as deep as I'd like - even if I take the bolt out when I put the rifle in the case, the top bulges slightly, meaning that the case is squeezing the scope cap down slightly. Website says 4 1/2" inside depth.

In my case, it's probably not a huge issue, as I only use the case for driving to the range and back, with nothing stacked on top of it, but for airline travel it would be a non-starter - I'd think at least 1/2" on each side of the rifle would be the starting point for safe flying.

Guys - quick shout out for Sureline Foam here in Calgary. I just contacted them about getting a whole new set of foam for my Starlight cases (38" and 52").

Total cost for two 'trays' for each case works out to about $90. That's WAAAY cheaper than I've found anywhere else locally. Even my crazy discount at Acklands Grainger doesn't come close to that cost. They can also do custom cutouts for specific guns.

Anyway- other guys might have found a cheaper option, but customer service at Sureline is sure good!
