I've had my Pelican 1750 for a long time, and if weren't for these 30" barrelled rigs I'd be happy with it. Trouble is, it doesn't matter how good the case is if the rifle doesn't fit in it. Next I got one of the big bejesus pelicans, a 1770 I think it is. Darn thing weighs 35 pounds empty, is hugely bulky and feels like you are trying to carry a coffin by yourself. You can forget about makeing airline weight with 2 rifles, and may not get there with one heavy rifle. I can say that I probably wouldn't have bought it if I'd seen one first, but who knows, I didn't know of any other options.
Shortly after I got the biggest Pelican, I found out about the Explorer case which is made in Italy. I'm just going by memory, but it is somewhere around 53" inside. I know I can put my big Carlock rifle, and a 10 pound sporter, a couple bipods, cleaning equipment, hunting knives and a small flashlight in it and still come in under 50 pounds. Thats a pretty big deal if you are flying, over-weight charges add up in a hurry and the big heavy things are the first to get left behind when the plane is too heavy. I wish I'd know about them first, I could have saved a lot of money.
On the other hand, if you are interested in buying a used 1770 case I'll revise my position to "Its the best thing going, you should buy mine".
