I have a 25 Stevens long bolt action that was my grandpas.

I am in the process of working out a plan for loading for it, I am going to cut down 17 Winchester Super Magnum and load blackpowder with a bullet on top using 25 ACP dies.

I want to know, does anyone know if using hard cast bullets in an old rimfire like this will be a good idea or even a safe idea?

I would love to find a 65gr soft lead bullet but I can find 50gr hard cast in Canada designed for 25 ACP.

Any thoughts?

Does the 25 rimfire use a normal grease groove. 257 bullet or is it a heeled bullet of .251 or so?

Inside lubricated bullet, .251 diameter.

I heard back from bullet barn, they have hard cast 50gr bullets, I can pan lube them for black powder.

The plan is to use cut 17 Winchester Super Magnum cases and load in about 7-8gr of FFFg with a 50gr bullet, this will have a cast length about half way between the short and the long and let me shoot grandpas old gun again.

Here is a link to Step 1 of the process.
