Just wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get some bullets similar to the Beartooth Hardcast bullets, I'd like to start reloading for a 44 mag carbine. One more question, do I need to use gas checks? Thanks.
Where abouts do you live? The reason I ask is there is a guy in this area that does good work, casting and/or reloading. I get quite a few different sizes of cast bullets from him and they have worked out really well. Sounds as though you're wanting the cast bullets for a rifle rather than a handgun. As a 'quick' rule of thumb, if you plan to push them out over 1200 f/sec, I would tend to go for bullets with gas checks.
If the bullet is designed for a GC, us one, in a carbine, where you can push it along nicely. It may even give better accuracy. I would try for BHN 16 which will give good penetration and expand nicely.

I'm located in North Vancouver, I am new to reloading and they are for a Ruger 77/44 carbine I just purchased. I noticed that bullet barn has some bullets similar but they don't have gas checks.
Miles how fast you want to push these lead slugs? If you are just plinking around under oh say 1300 fps you don't need a gas check, but if you want to step these bad boys up over that I would definetly recommend gas checks.
Bullet Barn X2. Good stuff and they are fast.
Ken.
I was going to try to push them at 1700 fps, so I guess I need gas checks, I was also going to try getting them sized to .432, I read on the beartooth website that size works best in the Ruger's.
I'll e-mail you the guy's address. I use a couple of his .44 bullets in both my
4" S&W 44 & 444 Marlin, both have gas checks. They are both 'Keith' style semi wadcutters, one 250gr & the other 325gr.
