Hard Cast Bullets ???

There are many ways to harden them lil rascals but the easiest way by far is linotype. Melts fast and harden any lead mix like a charm. Is just that is hard to find it.
 
I understand that pure antimony may be a bit difficult to alloy with lead. I use rotometel's superhard alloy ( 30 antimony 70 lead) to harden my bullets. I get down to the US in the winter and bring some back with me. I think over $100. is free shipping with in US. I would not want to put it on an airplane but if you are driving a 50lb box is only about 6"x6". I put a bit of tin and use salvage lead. One can make up a pretty hard bullet.
 
I water quench right out of the mold with WW and a little tin to get me 22-24 BHN. If I need harder (I rarely do) I'll add some hard steel shot with antimony. That little bit of antimony is already blended with the lead and really makes a difference when quenched right out of the mold. I find fluxing it with beeswax works better at keeping the antimony from separating.
 
The need for hard bullets is somewhat overstated. I have driven .308 and .303 Brit bullets well over 2100 fps with a gas check cast from WW allow with no apparent leading. Sizing and proper along with the use of gas checks do as much or more than casting hard bullets if leading is the issue you are trying to prevent.
