Hard Chrome is completely different than nitriding and it's hard to say which is best for corrosion protection but I suspect hard chrome may be. Heat levels of either process are not a concern for modern steels. I have to confess, I don't like the idea of either one for a firearm finish but then, I'm old and hide bound.

Armor coating is one of the best for durability. I know a fellow who has had it on a few rifles... he swears by it. I think he had his done in Texas.
