Hey guys, a quick question for you M14 wizards. I recently received my first M305 (thanks Canam!) and as I see here so have a lot of other people.

I have no experience with the M14 so this is one of those "is it just me?" types of questions.

When I'm bringing the bolt to the rear I feel a large amount of resistance when the bolt is almost all the way back. Almost as if it's catching on some. Keep in mind I just received it and have only begun to clean away the packing grease and haven't lubed it yet (I'm still watching 10000 videos on youtube to find out how to properly lube it).

So...any thoughts or suggestions? Or is it just me? :)

Thanks for your time, Gents.

what you're feeling is that 10 pound hammer going back into lock- all of the garand/m14s are "heavy" that way- esp when new- grease your rails and shoot her- it'll loosen up- if you want to feel how heavy it really is, field strip it and push the bolt to the rear- without the hammer to push against, it's really quite light
incidentally, that's one way to "lighten" or smooth the trigger pull- cushion the hammer so she doesn't hit the trigger housing quite so hard, and #### and pull the trigger a bunch of times- out of the rifle- that way everything "meshes" properly and you get it "worn in"

yup give it a good greasin'

then, remove your stock and watch your oprod as you draw everything to the rear, make sure there is no binding anywhere in the process.

edit: if you really want, sit down and cycle the action a couple hundred times.

Thanks guys. I figured it was just me and not the rifle but better to ask and be proven a dummy then to not know if I'm a dummy for sure. 2 birds with 1 stone if you will.

Thanks again!

And when you get her all cleaned and lubed and at the range, draw back the op rod and let the bolt fly home. Don't baby it forward to chamber your first round. Let 'er rip.

Exactly.. Fine choice you made :) Dont baby this thing, its not a .22 and I dont think you could break it without driving a truck over it. Look at it as a work out :) I thought mine was binding too at first but after a few hundred rounds I dont even notice anymore. If anything i find I miss the all around solid heavy feel when Im using other guns.
Grease er up and give er.
