Just ordered one of 5.11 tacticals 36" soft gun cases for my new AR from Tetragon. It came down to the fact that I don't see my self needing a hard case for what the AR goes through...into the truck out of the truck to the range bench back into the truck and back home. Couldn't justify the extra 100 + $ for a pelican. I can definately see where a hard case would make sense for some circumstances though.

Funny, no one seems to have mentioned Quebec Law 9 transport regs in regards to restricted rifles. Wasn't there mention of all restricteds having to be in a hard case?

The CFC only requires a non-transparent and "sturdy" container. Quesbec must really like making things harder on people :D

Just got this bad boy in today!

Pelican 1600...holds my LMT 10.5" on the lower layer, then can throw a bunch of handguns on top and head to the range. Its also a little easier to fib about whats in this case over a longgggg case like the 1700, 1720, 1750.

That said though, im throwing gun stickers all over this!

Nice Rig all around, I though of that as well but wanted the 1700 to carry my 20" HB Oly broken down when I remove the foam cutout...but I really like your set up. DAMMIT!!! I hate this place always makes me wanna spend money!!!;)

sorry guys...i was a victim of all this a short time ago too...

ill be picking up a 1720 in tan so that i can do the soft-case in a hard-case deal like chris costa demos in tactical carbine 1. Seems to make a lot of sense.

depends on what things are worth to me. if a rifle/ scope/ stuff is worth more than 3K, i'd say go with a hard case. with pelican, get a size bigger. Throw spotting scope, binos, spare mags and whatever else into the case, case into back of the truck and it'll be safe. Its not that i'm afraid of breaking my stuff- remington and leupold dont usually break, but i'd rather it break while I'm using it hunting than "oh ya, it broke when I hit a bump"

I interpreted the law the same way, but just in case I decided to call the BC firearms office. They say they want a hard case, although I don't see that correlating to the wording of the law.

I decided to inquire about cases since someone I do ipsc with said that one of his customers was fined coming out of his gun shop for having his pistol in a soft (yet locked) case.

They can "Want" all they like but it is not the law. As I said to one of these CFO pencil necks when they told me they "Wanted" something, "I want a million bucks, but today, neither of us are getting what we want unless you put it in writing, sign it and send it to me"!
