Hard year for deer out here

I have not seen a whole lot out. I cover a fair bit of ground in a day at work and am lucky to see 3 in a day.
 
The south and south east got a pile of snow so I'd expect a big hit on numbers. Central sask got slammed a couple of years ago in certain areas but seems to have bounced back a bit. I know we are all not seeing a thing:rolleyes: but the fact is there are still deer out there and some areas are better than others but this is Sask and the deer hunting will always be good for those who put in the effort. And quite a few will get lucky with the road warrior act as well.

For me I tagged out in the BP season when the weather was nice:D. I know I may have missed the rut but me and cold weather don't get along. The rut should be getting into full swing and the big boys will be moving so get out there guys.
 
Doesn't seem to be as many deer around here as in past years. I went out 3-4 times during October for muzzle loading and probably 5 times in November with only a doe to show for. Last year at this time, I'd filled both tags and my girlfriend had filled her buck tag.

I like to hunt on foot, so it might not help to increase my odds over other methods, but I seem to be working for it this year.:p I also haven't been able to rattle/call in a buck. Very little for scrapes or rubs. Oh well, maybe this cold snap will get them out and moving.
 
Been out every weekend since start of bow season.

Actual numbers in the immediate area I hunt seem to be steady as last year, actually maybe a bit more.

I am going by how many I see and my cameras.

I haven't got the ones I have picked out but the animals are there.As many as 6 in one picture.5 with my own eyes at a time.

The coyote pressure seemed to be down from last year as well as hunter pressure.

This being said, I haven't noticed as many in open areas during my travels but in the bush seems fine.

This week of cold will get them moving.
 
Last winter we had an early thaw followed by a freeze and some snow. The deer couldn't find food very effectively. Some nights there were 30+ on my lawn trying to eat the ends of my evergreens. I thought then that this might be a slower hunting season.

I have been out three times and haven't seen anything worth shooting. Probably 20 or so does. Maybe 4 dinky bucks. Spikers and 3x3s.

The thing is, the mule deer population didn't seem to be hit nearly as hard. I've got lots of trophy mule deer. Maybe they're tougher?

I'm going to remain optimistic and hope it's just early season and no rut.

The numbers seem up in my area, not moving much due to lack of snow but it sounds like the bucks started moving this week. I watched the herds in my area with trail cams all winter and the spring and they looked healthy, includes the fields, 53, and my usual areas in the forest zones 66,67.

Its a very slow year for the whitetails. I typically hunt across southern sask, and it is looking like it could be a write off year.

I'm still going to go out for a couple days and see what I can spot. Doubtful I'll pull the trigger on much more than a few 'yotes.
