Received a call from my buddy Chad the other day asking if I would like to get together for an evening of walleye fishing at his shack. Plans were made around our work schedules and we were able to get out late today(Friday) to see if we could ice a few. I don't think 5 mins passed from the time I put my first line down until I got my first bite. Setting the hook on the fish which had taken most of the slack line I had available I was rewarded with the feel of a bit of weight. A few pulls up and the fish took off taking almost all the line I had out. I thought for sure I was into a nice walleye but once I got the fish up and into the hole and reached down to grab it, looking into that big mouth and not seeing any teeth of a walleye I was stunned to find I had a decent largemouth. This was a first for me, largemouth through the ice. A few pics later and it was on it's way back down the hole to fight again another time. A few minutes later Chad had one on and unfortunately lost it, a walleye about 1.5 pounds, right at the top of the hole as he was about to pull it out. I followed that one up with one on my jigging rod with a williams whitefish spoon and then Chad's father( Don) hooked and landed another walleye shortly after. Chad landed one more small walleye and lost one good one and that was our evening. When it got too dark to see the lines we packed it in and headed back to shore. Was a great evening spent with some friends and ended up with a couple nice walleye for the frying pan. I would like to thank Chad and Don for their kind hospitality and generosity in inviting me out to their shack and hope we can do it again real soon.
P.S. I know this is a hunting forum so to appease those who may be upset I posted a fishing thread I will add some hunting content...I purchased a new .22-250 this week for yote hunting.......
