Harris bi-pod beyond front of barrel?

I am making a custom stock for one of my guns and wanted to move the bi-pod forward a bit. I was wondering if there would be a problem if the bi-pod legs were ahead of the barrel? My main concern is the heat damaging the rubber feet if I fired it with the bi-pod closed.

ANyone have any experience with this?

Are you belt feeding that pig ? How hot does your barrel get ?
If there's an air space between the feet and the barrel you shouldn't have a problem. The feet are grease and solvent proof - so they're probably some sort of neoprene, fairly high melting point.
 
hehe , belt feeding a single shot. Would that speed things up?

The feet will be 2 inches past the front of the barrel. i was more concerned with heat at the muzzle when the gun is fired with the bipob folded up.
 
You have a greater risk of losing the rubber feet to the muzzle blast, I think.

What caliber?

I shot a .223 and a .308 pretty regularly with the legs extended and stowed forward. The legs (springs mostly) make a bit more noise, but I still have both rubber feet.

Think "continuous heat" to do damage from heat. You can't shoot fast enough, for long enough.
