has any one used cast lead bullets in their M14?

My concern with using lead cast would be fouling the gas hole that sends gas to the gas cylinder assembly. Foul that up, the whole gun operation is fubar. How about lead fouling in the breach? Could end up with lead shavings and deposits in the chamber and in the bolt and bolt face?

Lead deposits --- What are those Did you read my post

In fact i think my brass spends less time in the cleaner to come clean
if after 400 rounds and no cleaning and rifle is very clean
Well it you could tell it had been fired, but you would never have thought 400 cast rifle rounds had been through it

Some of my initial low pressure round were very dirty ----- BULLET LUBE case was not sealing but could be cleaned up with a dry patch down the barrel

I then had to clean it (it was out in the rain) and I thought bolt and opp rod needed a bit of lube

I shot lots of cast through a Norinco M14 about 15 years ago. Never got any lead buildup or lube buildup in the gas cylinder or chamber area. You can shoot light bullets with very light charges, and work the action manually like a Ross. I never did much of that. I liked to shoot heavier bullets (200 gr Lee with a gas check) with charges of 3031 or 4895 at around 1800 fps. It cycled the action flawlessly. Neck sized cases fed and functioned flawlessly in my Norinco too. Scrounge cases and lead and do your own casting, and you can get pretty close to rimfire costs (as long as you don't cost your time or amortize your equipment!)

Yes I only neck size as well, never had a problem, and my cases with light cast loads honestly last almost forever. If you ever did get a tiny piece of lead in the gas hole, its just lead, all of the internal parts are made of steel and desgigned to handle dirt, mud etc. If a little piece of soft lead got in their my handy dandy m14 would chew that shat up and eat it for breakfast.
