Has any Tavor users removed the U ?

not sure i would do that to my tavor. too expensive to mess with, prying it out with a screwdriver, dunno. Plus that part must be there for a good reason.

I don't know. I think IWI has enough experience manufacturing firearms. Im sure they put that part there for a reason. I'm not about to mcgyver my 3000$ rifle because some YouTube video told me to do it. Anyone trying to get precision accuracy from a tavor has too much free time on their hands.

Ya I wouldn't remove it. It is there to make the gun more sturdy I would imagine. If it took a big hit on the barrel from dropping it on concrete or something I could see the barrel becoming loose or it affecting it negatively somehow. I assume if they could of had it free floated with out any cons they would of done it.

Mine is out. Its no problem to take out or put back. If you have an IDF front sight it may hinder accuracy (this was the intended purpose of this piece) as you can flex the polymer side to side which would move the sights out of line.

With my MI XL handgaurd, I can press the handgaurd left, right and down and feel contact. I am looking into how to reduce flex in the polymer and increase the gap around the barrel.

Gear head works isn't exactly a random tavor dude either, seems pretty knowledgable about the platform and is producing some well made upgrades.

Kind of a silly video. Tells you to remove it to free float the barrel, but not show any evidence of improved accuracy. Why would I want to do this to my rifle?
