I'm curious if anyone has bought the 240 round battle packs or 720 rd cases of Hirtenberger 7.62x51 NATO from Tenda recently?

I'm curious what the year of manufacture is on them. Unfortunately, the lady I spoke to at Tenda didn't know.

Take this as you see fit but I just bought 2 crates from Calgary Shooting center and I believe both were from 1974. On Tendas site it says berdan primed and I may be wrong but I think all the Berdan primed stuff is from the 70s and in the 80s they went to boxer primed, Also the battlepacks changed from 3x240 (berdan) to 2x360 (boxer). Only seen wolverine offering the 80s boxer stuff, again I could be way wrong but from what I have seen thats what it is.

The issue with Berdan primed cases isn't the swage, it's the off center flash holes. They are a pain to reload with conventional dies.

Welp... here's to hoping that I didn't waste my $$$ on them and can use my flash hole uniforming tool, decap with the old hand punch, and re-size with the decapper, neck sizer pulled way up... we shall see

The berdan primed stuff can be swaged and then be like any other brass though no? At least I hope so, cause I have some being sent to me from an EE purchase

Like RangerPark said, it's the flash hole that will screw you over. If you can get a decapping die that will work, and you want to go through the trouble of aligning every case perfectly every time, then more power to you. But the general consensus (At least as far as I'm aware) is that it's just not worth it.

I guess you could make a decapping tool... Measure the center to center distance of the flash holes, drill a couple of holes in your tool, press some tiny hardened pins in, and then painstakingly align it every time and press them out manually... But for all the trouble you'd still probably be better off getting boxer primed brass.

I was wondering about these as well any feedback good or bad? I am debating between that or ordering a bunch of cases of the lake city but i dont want to spend the 400 right now

I have shot both out of a CZ557 and there was little to no difference in results from Lake City boxer primed and Hertinberger berdan primed. If it were a matter of choice I'd buy whatever option is cheaper as they performed the same.

I bought a bunch from Cabellas a year or so ago and they have been boxer primed
Been reloading them with no issues
I believe Marstar had them a while back too and the ones they had were befdan primed
I thought the recent batch of hirt ammo was all newer production thus boxer primed?

Well i just ordered some hert from tenda. They assured me it is not corrosive. Just need some cheap rounds for the cz range to play with. Had to pay shipping which ads to the cost but still seems the best deal i can find unless i got for the 500 rd packages

I received my brass I bought off EE that I was worried about in the mail today... promptly opened it up... popped out a primer.... single centered flash hole (still crimped yes, I knew that would be the case, so I'll swage them)

The Hirtchenburger - however you spell it - looks to be perfectly reloadable to me... calm now, I didn't waste my $$$

Thanks! That would be Berdan primed. Halfway through 1979 is when they supposedly switched over to Boxer primers.

1980 and newer ammo is all boxer primed.

Funny, the Tenda site says Berdan primed and reloadable. I tried explaining to the lady that I spoke with the difference between Boxer and Berdan primers, but there was a bit of a language barrier.

None of the Hirtenberger is corrosive.

When you receive it, would you please list the date of manufacture? It's on the box or the headstamp. Thanks!
