Has anyone come across old ruins - SW Ontario

Hi - got a new metal detector for Christmas and just starting to do some research on good locations to poke around. I know from my hunting days around the Tillsonburg area, there were a few spots in the bush where the remains of old foundations made for good rabbit cover!

Has anyone come across any old basement holes or foundations in their hunting travels that you could share with me? Looking for some good prospects to do some detecting - hoping to find some old pennies, etc.

on rr4. kenilworth there is an old barn, house that burnt down a long time ago. NOG 2EO.

also luther marsh use to be a town you might find something out there.
 
In Orangeville head down the train tracks south for about 500m-800m from the train yard on townline.
There is an old kiln and foundations built
into the western hill.
 
Thanks for the tips guys - looks like I might have to go and find who owns that land in Orangeville and get permission! Interesting.

I have been doing quite a bit of research around the ghost towns. Most are fairly well documented. What I am really looking for is the one off homesteads and businesses that are now just rubble or memory.

Appreciate any and all leads from folks.

I managed to find an old rock foundation/rock well on my neighbor's property. I always wanted to see if I could find out more information about it. No idea how old it is. Its outside Ottawa, so it might be a wee bit too far for you to drive.

There are still people who live in Lemieux, just not in the area of the slide. If you check the slide out it was used as a garbage dump for several decades, you might find something.
 
There is an abandoned farm on opeongo lake in algonquin park as well as several logging camps. It would be neat to find an old double bit axe head.
 
we found an old building at our hunt camp deep in the bush. Was just a 15x15ft building with a big fireplace in the middle made of rocks with 2 sets of wooden bunkbeds on each side of the fireplace. had an old knife stuck in the wall and a bunch of old kerosene lamps and bunch of old tins and jars. It was pretty cool to find it, suppostly a bunch of americans owned this property before my grandfather bought it in 1979, so sometime before then this place was used for camping while they hunted
 
If you ever find yourself in South Porcupine, there is the remnants of an old cabin, just a stone fireplace and chimney with alder bushes growing all through it. A huge fire swept through in 1911 and many prospectors died. Some of them had quite a bit of treasure stashed that was never found....

If you want to check out that old chimney, it's right off the highway right next to a trail which is about 200 yards past the dump. Oh yeah, watch out for bears.
 
Thanks for the PMs guys - appreciate the leads. Does anyone know of any other locations in the SW Ontario area? There has to be alot of them around still. Appreciate any more leads that folks may have.

One person PMd me with a good point. Anyone know of a small grouping of apple trees in the middle of nowhere SW Ontario - this may be the remains of a yard with the foundation but a dip in the ground.
 
This one isnt too far from you! (Milton area)

On the corner of where Twiss rd and Side Rd 8 meet you will find
and access point ot the bruce trail. If you follow the trail for about 1-2km,
you will find a foundation of an old homestead, with most of the
brick work still standing.

The trails are clearly marked, and the side trail is a loop so whatever way
you go you will find it.

You make me want to get my grandfathers old metal detector working
again and go exploring. But I have a feeling I would only find an assload of
old nails and screws knowing my luck.! :rolleyes:

Thanks CheDavera - will have to get hold of the folks that oversee the trails to determine if I require permission in there! Appreciate the lead. Will be cool to see what is left of the old homestead as well. When I finally make it there, I'll get some photos and post them for folks to see.
