It's been just over 2 years now since my Lithgow BREN was redirected to the RCMP lab for examination.

Is there any set pattern here or is it entirely random as to how long it will take for me to get it back? I seem to remember someone saying it took theirs 3 years.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

4 years ago it took 14 months to get a 12(3) AK. This time I am at 29 months and counting for 12(3) VZ58. Been looking for a Bren for quite sometime. Maybe I cant find one because they are all at the lab

Hey if it was for the lab protecting us we would all be running around with blaze47's. What kind of a world would it be then if we could have a 22lr that looks like an AK. Think of the children!

No they did not. But they do decide what is a variant and a rifle which is non restricted, the blaze, is dressed up with some ak looking furniture and all of a sudden it is prohibited. It would be like putting the thompson looking furniture on the 10/22 and calling it prohibited. They also have decided to examine all 12(3) that have not been examined to be surrendered to them for 3 years for examination. This is not required. It is something they have taken on when they do not have the resources to do it in a timely fashion.

My advice - submit a $5 Access to Information Request, or ATIP for those in Government. Ask for:

"All formal, informal and transient records related to firearm, serial number ###, of the pattern commonly known as a "BREN gun", including as a minimum all e-mails, handwritten notes, presentations, briefing materials and draft and final reports, e-mails or any other written or recorded media."

Send the request the RCMP and the Department of Public Safety.

Chances are, your gun will get returned well before the ATIP documentation is provided to you.

What's your point?

They are holding onto property for so long, that in any other context it would be considered theft.

Not disagreeing. Just pointing out that the lab is the messager, and hat the government is the author that gave them the ability.

The government likes having then in that position. It takes the hat off them. A buffer to say that it isn't the responsibility of the government but rather the lab.

When in reality the government passed legislation is the issue.

They want us hating on the lab. Keeps the politicians out of the heat.

this BS is totally coming from the lab. Do what Claven said through your Lawyer.
then the effected people should talk about a class action .

perhaps we should DEMAND a service standard IE they have 6 months to rule on any firearm submitted. If the feds can process 10,000 refugees in a month why does it take years to rule on a firearm?

Mark.. after four years of this insanity it's time for you to make an official complaint with your MP if you haven't already done so.

I think there are grounds for criminal charges to be laid against the RCMP. I remember Jim Montag in London back in the late 80's threatening the London Police under a certain area of the Criminal Code when they refused to register a couple of STEN guns. That scared them and they smartened right up.

I've been talking to people that work for my Member of Parliament in the last 18 months. Now that the election is past us I'll approach her directly.

The RCMP have no intention of ever returning your FAL unless they are forced to.

So when they hang onto these guns for years, are they caring for them? Do they keep them in a controlled environment? Im pretty sure if i just left my guns sitting in a locker or something for 4 years many of them would have some rust.

So for those of you who have waited years; is the condition of the firearm the same as before they got their hands on it?

Had confirmation by snail mail yesterday approving a 12.3 new acquisition . All that was required was a few pix verifying the conversion to semi.
NO gun was sent "upalong" start to finish surprisingly was about 3 months.

Because the refugees are future Lieberal voters and not a one of them is a terrorist infiltrator. The firearm if not settled down in a locker for 3 years will break out and go on a killing spree. Its the difference between innocent people and evil inanimate objects.

Turns sarcasm translator off.
