Has anyone heard from Gunnar at Armco lately?

busy

i think some people are missing something here. at your job, assuming it was the only business that provided a specific service, would you work 16 hour days just because the business was available to you? or would you choose to enjoy life and work as much as you needed to provide that life for you and your family. the thing that strikes me is that there just aren't enuff gunsmiths to take care of everybody's needs( not gunnars fault, maybe comments like in some of the threads posted even dissuade people to try the trade out?). seems silly to hold a person responsible, even though he's trying to do his best and support the sport. know the person before you judge 'em or how they should run their business. maybe he runs a successful business but can handle only so much. Hell, don't use him, leaves more time for him to work on my stuff!:dancingbanana:

I have called him several times, emailed several times, and faxed him. This is my IPSC gun, and my only handgun. It's an STI Edge that had a very stiff trigger. It was shootable as is but I wanted it tweaked. On March 2nd he said he planned to have it back within two weeks. I haven't heard from him since and there is a match on the 8th I would like to practice for and shoot in. If I only heard something I would feel better. I sent an email tonight asking him just to send it back but I have no idea if he will even get the message. I'm doing the TN tomorrow and will fax him. Hopefully he gets it and sends it back....

I understand being overworked but communication is the key to everything. :)

A buddy of mine sent a pistol for a tune-up 6 months ago. No responses to his emails or pm's at all.

If he's got too much work in the shop, he shouldn't accept more.

I talked to him on the phone on saturday and cleared up a few issues. In the 15 minutes he was talking to me the other line rang twice and the one we where on had 5 drop outs indicating a incoming call/call waiting signal.....
Seems to me the phone and walk ins are killing his productivity....when you get him he's great, and I think he trys his best, he's just swamped......

why work for free?every call he misses is money lost....and if his phone rings that much he is losing lots of cash.....

Not so. If a business is working at full capacity - to the extent that the current staff cannot answer phone calls - then hiring someone merely to answer the phones will not result in more revenue, it will result in a net loss of revenue. Why? Because if they are so busy that they can't answer any phones, then clearly they cannot take on any more work, and hence the business will be out of pocket for the wages of a person employed to tell customers that more work can not be accepted.

It's a losing proposition.

Riflman,Gunnar does good work, but you do have to be patient.I recently sent in my IPSC pistol for a minor job, initially was quoted as a 2 week job, finally received my gun back 6 months later.I dont think that its a simple as hiring more people as there probably arent many pistolsmiths out there to pick up the slack.Anyway, this wait gave me an excuse to buy a nice production gun to keep in the game!

But mine is not broken. 2 weeks + 6 months is a big deal. I don't want my situation to turn into that. I want my gun back even if it's not finished. It still shoots as is and it's my only handgun right now. It's time to play. I still have not heard back. I planned to initiate a transfer today but wanted to give at least 24 hours to hear back. No word, so hopefully I can get a TN tomorrow and the fax of the TN will get his attention. I don't mean to be a jerk, I just want to use this gun. Same goes for my motorcycle. I would hate to take it in for some mods this spring and get it back after season is over and the snow starts to fall.

I dunno why you guys have such problems. Ive gotten ahold of him every single time I needed too. Think about what time your calling at, call when he maybe wont be so swamped with calls ( so dont call right after work like everyone else) just a tip. like i said I always get him on the phone, email and pm's are not a real good way.

and guys lighten up on him for christ sake. he runs a small little shop with just him. He runs the IPSC stuff at our club and is active threwout BC in various IPSC and Handgun related events. He has a life, he isnt going to work on guns or answer phones 24hrs a day 7 days a week. there is only a handful of pistolsmiths in Canada and how many guns? so relax vut him some slack and your guns will get done as quick as he can. Ive been in his shop and seen how swamped he is, trust me he's working as fast as he can. if he keeps stopping to answer the phone with how much it rings and calling everyone then all your stuff would never get done cause he's be on the phone or writting eamil all day.

Thats a great story  bottom line is Gunnar tells everyone 2 weeks and then when you ask for your gun back 6 months later he is surprised that your pissed at his Bull**t.

Try the truth Gunnar, when someone asks for a time tell them the TRUTH and let the customer decide weather or not to use your service.

How you like that karma Gunnar? ;)

I'm going to have to say that you haven't dealt with many gunsmiths, have you? Pretty much the nature of the breed. And as there are less and less of them every year, the waits are just going to get longer. - dan

Thats funny , your saying lieing is part of their job :runaway:
If you cant do a job for 6 months then dont tell the customer to send it in, its not the customers fault he doesnt know how to run his business.

It would be very simple,

-customer calls,is told it would be 6 months before he could do it
-customer decides if this is okay, if it is then customer pays a $50 deposit to keep his time in que, when time comes he sends it in and work is done.

Pretty hard eh? Instead he likes to play hide n seek for a month..... after you have had enough and just want it returned.

Simple solution pal,

If you don't like his services then DON'T use them.

Also don't use this board to attack someone else's character.

Oh I forgot...you are MR. PERFECT!

P.S

I am not a Gunnar Groupie, just someone who thinks your starting to cross the line.

The last thing I wanted was to have this turn into a slam fast for the guy. In my business, I am no stranger to heavy workload and deadlines. Occassionally, we estimate a project deadline and find we can't live up to our original estimate. So I am guilty to of doing that too. I do try and keep clients in the loop and try to be honest when I know things will be delayed. I could see how he would be overwhelmed by calls and emails though so I understand. In my case, I just know that I would rather be shooting the gun than have sit there for an extended period.

I only posted here because I was wondering if something happened to him (he became ill), if he was on holidays, etc. and wanted to know if anyone had heard from him lately. If the mods could kill this thread, it would be appreciated.
