ive been doing some research on mounting my Giraud Tri-Way trimmer to a 1/4HP single phase motor but i have no idea what parts or adapters that i need. have any of you done this successfully?

the motor im getting has a 1/2" shaft and i have been able to find a set screw coupling for it but i dont know what else i would need to mount a chuck to that.

I use a press drill

using a drill press would mean i would feed the brass from the bottom of the trimmer which means the brass shavings would not be contained within the trimmer. giraud recommends having the trimmer point upwards so the brass is fed from the top.

I have done it for 2000 rounds and have not had an issue. It works. I feed one in each hand, 2 seconds per case.
While one hand trims, the other hand picks a case, then remove case, other hand trims, other hand picks a case....

A lot of info at ARF.com on this.

I just recently picked one of Giraud's complete trimmers; amazing product. Personally, I would build a set up similar to their original with the motor and trimmer being soft coupled through sheaves and a belt, as opposed to directly mounting to the motor.

Things can get a bit sketchy with rotational forces and unbalanced drivens...

buy a cheap press drill, and chuck it in, and you are done.
Wait for the canadian tire drill press to be with a rebate and buy it, that's what I did.
Variable speed, mounts solidly to bench, strong motor, has a chuck, useful for many jobs including trimming brass.

i have a Delta drill press already but i dont want to mount my trimmer in that direction which is why i made a post inquiring about this method.
i think i found the stuff i need though so i just gotta get around to making the purchases.

You are sooooo over complicating this man. Just chuck the damn thing in your drill press and use it.
I'm out of this thread. Good luck.

From website:
"The Giraud Tri Way Trimmer is designed to be powered by your typical drill motor, drill press, or other dedicated rotating power source."

From the instructions manual..... :

The preferred method of trimming using this tool is to orient the tool such that the
case is pressed into the tool using a straight upward or downward motion.
This allows brass chips and shavings generated by the trimming process to fall away
from the insert supporting the cartridge case. If the tool is used horizontally or
angled less than vertical, there is the possibility of chips and shavings entering
the insert supporting the cartridge case between the removal of one case and
insertion of the next. If this occurs, the next case may trim improperly or
unevenly due to the debris preventing the case from fully seating or being
supported unevenly. If this occurs, a plain cotton swab can be used to wipe the
chamber insert clean.
