Has anyone recently bought a Beretta Model 71?

I was wondering if anyone has bought one of the surplus Model 71s that a few vendors have in stock. How is the overall condition? Is the fit and finish still good or does it rattle like my 2000 Buick LeSabre?

Also I do kind of find the six inch barrel a little bit goofy looking. Do you think it would be worthwhile getting the barrel shortened and front sight brazed back on? I know the gun is cheap and I also don't know how much it would cost for a gunsmith to do that, but if it was around one or two hundred I'd consider it.
 
Barrel shortening and refit of the front sight is on S & J's website ( site sponsor). Works very well.
I picked up a couple of the model 71's from them and happy with both.
 
Thanks guys. I just looked on their website, That's exactly what I was thinking of having done. Do you need to let the CFO know if you change the barrel length on a pistol?
 
A believe a gunsmith needs to certify it for you, not sure if S&J does it as part of the process or not. As long as it's over 106mm it's still restricted though.

I have an original with the short barrel, out of Israel. Very accurate little semi, have headshot prairie chickens with it. - dan

The pistol as was sold here in Canada did not have a threaded barrel but it could certainly be threaded by a gunsmith and then a fake suppressor attached. True North Arms has a variety of fake suppressors available for sale. Having said that, some aficionados are interested in the history of some of these guns and if that's the case then the question becomes how accurate does one want to be to the type of suppressors that were used operationally by the Israelis and others. That type of project may require sourcing a fake suppressor that is different than what is normally available in the retail market here in Canada.

If you really need the fake suppressor your going to have to have it threaded for something like the gsg size of threads/fake suppressor as the diameter is way to small for 1/2 28

Bought one of these when covid first hit off of a cgn member. Supposed to have came with several spare mags, came with one and he couldn't find the others.... too bad they would have been worth as much as the gun.... or maybe he discovered that after the fact.

Would like to find a spare 6" barrel for the above mods. Maybe after the ban the opportunity to buy parts gun minus the frame will come about.

Man I'd love an original steel framed .32acp version of this same gun!!!

Personally I stick with standard velocity ammo as the frames look like they might suffer some peening by design.
