Has anyone shot the new 4th generation G17 yet? I'm hearing a lot of complaints over on GlockTalk about them. Wanted to see if anyone here had any experiences to share.

The new recoil spring assembly looks pretty ridiculous for the 9mm. That's what seems to be causing all the problems for the guys in the US. I haven't heard a single person say that they could notice any difference whatsoever in recoil on the G17, and only some who said they feel a slight difference on the G22.

Two other things I really don't like on the new generation G17... the dustcover is a lot thinner, and the passage hole for the recoil spring guide on the front face of the slide is way bigger, causing the surrounding steel to be a lot thinner as well. Dakine425 on youtube has 3 great videos outlining all the diff's and a range test.

I put a mag or two thru one, it shoots like a glock. The changable grip strap is nice, and does make it smaller in the hand, otherwise, same as before. Accurate, reliable and ugly as sin.:D

I haven't shot one but I was able to fondle one and compare it to the gen 3 and I much preferred the grip of the RTF2. Now that's a grip with real purpose, so I ordered a RTF2 from Police Ordnance with trijicon night sights and three mags for only $605.

Ditto for me. right down to the Trij sights.

I handled the 4th gen in Arizona right when they first came out down there. I actually did a side by side comparison and felt that the RTF was a much more solid grip. It just felt better so, I bought one.

I suggest doing the same and get them both side-by-side and doing your own comparo. You may find different that me... that's why the still make both for now.

The good thing will be all the cheap G19/17 that people will want to unload for the Gen 4 G-locks.

I do want a Gen 4 22 tho...

Here is the thing, if the gen 4 looks completely different gun and bring the handleing to another new level, I will sell my gen 3.5 to buy one. But the gen 4 not much of different except the back strip. I cannot see one will sell the gen 3 for the gen 4.

I have held the RTF2, but the 4th generation Glock do not use the RTF2 texturing. The texturing on the 4th gens is more coarse.

I went to my local store when the RTF2 first came out, and after handling them both side by side, the difference was negligible to me, and the RTF2 actually chewed up my palm.

I put off buying a Glock for a long time waiting for the 4th gens.... but am wondering if I should just save the $60 and go with the 3rd Gen G17. All I really wanted in the 4th Gen was the thinner grip as I have small hands, but seems like a bit of a trade off now. I could pickup a G17 from PO for $500 plus taxes and shipping.

Has anyone noticed an actual decrease in diatance to the trigger? On the 3rd gen G17 I can only pull the trigger with the distal 3rd of my finger pad.... on the 4th Gen how much more reach would I get?

If you hands are that small that you can't even reach the trigger comfortably with your trigger finger than a glock just isn't for you at all. Now maybe just maybe the gen 4 one without any backstraps on will fit you but I'd be looking into a S&W MP9 instead.

I think it just sounds worse than it is. I can comfortably reach the trigger, though just barely. However, I would like more slack (if that's even the right word) in my trigger finger so that I can choose whether to pull the trigger with the tip, middle of pad, or even the 'power crease'.

I have the Gen 4 G22 and I love it. I can't really compare it to a Gen 3.5 G22 as I never owned one but I do own a Gen 3.5 G17 and the new gun fits my hand better. Both are excellent guns. Buy the one that fits/feels better for you. You can't go wrong with any Glock.

Now when you say a 3.5G are you referring to a RTF2?
