Has anyone tried the Lapua 6.5 mm123 gr Scenar?

I think I would like to give Lapua bullets a go. I will have a rifle in .260 Rem in the near future and I am looking to get the components to tinker with some loads. I am also considering the 139gr Scenar and the 142gr SMK. Thoughts? BTW - Barrel length will be 26" with a 1 in 8 twist.

Cheers.

How do they perform in terms of accuracy and long range (up to 1000 yds) performance? I would choose a different bullet for hunting. I tend to trust the BC values from Sierra, it seems some others are a little optimistic.

I would ask you about powder but maybe someone shooting a 260 Rem will chime in on that. I've searched the net for preferred loads with limited results. There are a few 260's at the range, so I'll bug some of the guys in spring.

Cheers

Lapua's are superb bullets. But that can also be said about Bergers. I shoot both of them

Some find MK's to work for their barrels too.

Following up the pack are the Amax 140's. Rarely are they the smallest grouper but they are consistent and decently priced. Shot alot of Amax's over the years.

These move to the front of the pack if game/varmints are on the menu. Bergers work great on game too. Lapuas have a pretty well established record of not working well on game.

Bullets from 120 to 142gr shoot well. Just depends on what you want to do.

Let me know if you would like to try an assortment cause there is no way to know what your pipe will like until you shoot them. H4831SC seems to be the universal go to powder. Re15, H4350 work great for the lighter slugs. Re17 may be the new powder of choice?????? Hope to test some soon.

CCI BR2 primers get my nod.

The 120 to 130gr bullets are becoming very popular with tactical shooters using 260R because they kick less and fly flatter. Good for those unknown moderate distance targets. More then enough smack to knock down the gongs and plates.

More importantly, their shorter length allows them to be seated properly in standard mags.

The 139 to 142gr VLDs are usually desired for those who want the lowest wind drift beyond 600yds.

More then likely, your barrel will have accuracy nodes for the different weight of bullets so you could have difference bullets for different jobs.

It seems that H4831SC is quite popular.

What kind of velocities should expect from my barrel. I am hoping for ~2900 for the 123 gr bullets (Lapua or SMK) and ~2750 for the 140gr bullets. Is that reasonable from a 26" tube?

My use of this gun in F Class will depend on how well it shoots. We'll see.

Do you offer some type of "variety pack" for bullets? I heard the Berger bullets were quite expensive so I haven't really considered them. Of course I could be wrong.......wouldn't be the first time!

I would use 130 bergers but I cannot reach the lands and still fit them in the clip on my savage. I might try them and see how well they shoot when seated off the lands. I am using H4350 in my 6.5-284 but I just bought a pound of N560 to try. I am getting 3160fps out of my 26" McGowan barrel with the 123gr lapuas.

I took a look at what Ken Waters had to say in Pet Loads. It seems that my velocity goals should easily be attainable without pushing it too hard (i.e. excessive pressure). IMR4831 produced nice velocities with good accuracy according to Waters.

Thanks for the info 6mm Shooter.
