Has Marlin fixed their damn quality issues yet?

Is the C the compact or cowboy? How much was your LGS askin' for it?

As @Trinimon said, it is the carbine version. Very handy little thing. I believe the price was in the $650-700 range - I wasn't interested in buying so I didn't commit the exact price to memory. As I said, I was a little disappointed in how the straight stock felt while holding it - I had been very interested in the 1894 in 44 magnum, but now I am not so sure.

Best Regards, Geraldo

I thought my .357 was a Remington model, as I bought it late in 2010. Looked closely, it has "Cowboy Limited" stamped on it's "JM" barrel. Fantastic shooter, though not as fast as some tuned '94's I've seen. My daughter loves it as well. Trying to trade it for one in '44 for Wild Bunch shooting. Damn hard to find.

I just picked up a 336W with the laminate stock set on it. The barrel and magazine tube has the same shot finish as the model 870 shotty. Upon first inspection, wood fit to metal contours is fantastic. Action of the lever has been addressed and is smooth, not like the egg beaters 336 of a year ago. so far so good. I bought a Redfield Revolution to top it off. We will see if the new 336W has the inherited barrel droop. Will try to update as things progress...

The short answer is no, I received this one yesterday: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/955517-New-Marlin-Stock-fit

My friend bought one sight unseen from the same vendor this week with similar issues, although he's not as offended by the lack of quality as I am. Lets see how this vendor deals with the issue
I just bought a Marlin SBL and in regard to the finish and fit it is better than the last two Marlin Guide guns that I have owned, which were made before Marlin was bought out by the Freedom Arms group. When buying from Epps it is possible to see when the stock was added, since it has the date when the posting was added to the inventory (check the Date added - for example some Marlin stock was added in 2011). I looked at the Epps's Marlin GBL's in stock earlier this year, however I noticed that they had been in stock for more than a year, so I think that they were still sorting out the quality control issues. The Marlin SBL which I bought from LeBarrons has a Marlin Firearms North Haven CT barrel marking on the left side and MR serial number, while on the right side of the barrel it has a REP making i.e Remington, the barrel marking on the left hand side is PH indicating the barrel was made in June 2013. The stock fitting is much better than in the picture of the GBL and the rifle functions with absolutely no issues with feeding and is just as accurate as the last two guide guns I have owned. If you are going to buy a new Marlin I would try to get one made in 2012 or latter.

I think they still have not recovered, last week at the range, this man with is brand new 336 was jamming every second shot, i felt bad for him... JP.

I have an 1895gs that was made this year and the quality is great. Just as smooth as a JM
I am not surprised, since the new ones seem to work well because the suspect parts produced at the original factory are all used up, also the finish on the stock, is a lot better than most of the originals I have seen. To check the date on the left side of the barrel, it consists of two letters indicating the month and year manufactured. This is for barrels that have REP on the right hand side, indicating Remington.
The first letter is the month using B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X as the code. B=Jan. L=Feb. A=Mar. C=Apr, K=May, P=June etc
The second letter is the year E=2010 F=2011 G=2012 H=2013

Thanks! I was just going to ask this question, as I put my name down for the SBL. Looks like you'll have better luck with the SBL (anecdotal evidence) being freshly made, unlike the GBL where it is more likely to have a new old stock version.
