Has Marlin got their act together

Good chance you got a brand new gun that was in stock for awhile, the new ones I've seen are excellent quality, anything from 2019 build dates looked nice.

Possible. I did hand pick this one though, action is smooth, wood to metal fit is good, no shape edges, front sight aligned. Everything checked out until I broke her down at home.

Marlin and Gravel have been slow to respond as well.

A question for the guys with cal. 38/357 in your new(er) 1894's; will they shoot BOTH well? The one I had, Bought it about 9 or 10 years ago wouldn't cycle 38 specials worth a hoot---357's were ok.

Had to spend $$$ to have a gunsmith slick it up--ran like a top with 357's--but it still wouldn't shoot the 38"s.

I had read somewhere that when Marlin reintroduced it their engineers kept the same basic design, but tweaked some parts to make both calibers feed much more reliably. The ones I shot had no issues shooting .38's as fast as I could work the lever. It was lots of fun with the almost zero recoil of the .38 special.

I just thought I'd add my 2 cents for anyone considering a new Marlin.

I just picked up an 1895 GBL from my local Canadian Tire and couldn't be happier! The fit and finish are excellent. Wood to metal fit is tight, the sights are installed straight and the lever is very smooth out of the box.

According to my serial number this a 2019 rifle

Cheers!

I picked up a GSBL which I’m pleased with...no issues and very accurate with 1.25x4 scope. All my other marlins are JMs. When I looked at several of the remlin SBLs a few years back I wasn’t impressed whatsoever with the finish on the forestocks. The front by the band looked like a sawed off 2x4 and was sharp edged and rough like it had just been bucked off by a chop saw. No sanding whatsoever and not contoured into the barrel and mag tube like all my JMs. That was a real turn off for me. Perhaps that has improved in last couple of years. Also one of them the front sight was off centre slightly.

Thanks for all the feedback fellas !

Seems to echo what I have been told and advised so far...that very late model rifles are pretty good....altho Marlin still seems to have a problem mounting their sights straight...which is almost unbelievable

At minimum ill be handling anything I buy before laying out the $$.

Thanks

Well maybe I spoke too soon,a neighbor just bought a Sbl from canadian tire and his first shot locked the gun up solid. He brought it to me still loaded with bullets he couldn't work the lever to get them out.

I got it all fixed up for him, loading gate was super loose and jammed up the action.Once I took it apart and cleared it ,got it all together and looked down the barrel, there is those dam canted front sights again.Looking it over its nowhere near put together like my 2019 sbl,fit and finish is crap ,and the rear of the bolt is flush with reciever on one side, and sticks our a few mm on the ejection port side.If it were mine it would already be in the mail. What a piece of crap, date on box was 2019 ,can't believe it.

So what's the deal with the new "dark series"? Are they now taking stock sets that won't pass qc Visually, painting them black and selling them at a premium? Just surmising because I can't understand painting wood black for new production rifles. You'd think they'd go synthetic for such a beast.

Answer is they maybe getting a bit better but they are in no way the quality of the JM stamped Marlins.

Which is why the JM stamped rifles carry a premium price compared to the Remlins...

Just got a remlin 336c made in 2018 this rifle is equal to some jm marlin i got in the past in terms of fit and finish

You are aware that there are lots of JM stamped Marlins that were made by remington as well right?Remington aquired plenty of parts in the buy out and assembled many jm stamped Marlins that are just as crappy as remlins.Ive seen it first hand ,and I've owned some of the jm stamped remlins .Lots of people buy a jm stamped gun and pay a premium for nothing more than a remlin with jm stamped barrel.
