Has the AR market in Canada totally collapsed or what?

I've tried selling two used AR's recently for what I think are very reasonable prices and nothing is moving. Now that's fine, I'm not hard-up for the money or anything, and if I need to keep them I will; but it just seems really odd to me that guns that would have sold in a minute or two a year ago now sit for weeks on the EE.

I check the EE regularly, and there are a ton of used, reasonably priced AR's for sale that just aren't selling.

This is just my observation. Maybe people are still hungover from the great panic binge/buying spree of early 2013.

It comes and goes. What was a very reasonable price last year probably doesn't match up to the newest shipments of Norincos and the DPMS oracles.

Hell, I ended up taking about $600 loss on my AR when I sold it a few months ago.

I guess my interests still are greatly biased towards items I can use beyond the range. I love being able to toss my .223 bolt gun in the truck along with a centerfire and shotgun to have fun with on the woods roads and clearings. Maybe the lack of ammunition at all times, and at a price that you can afford to feed the lead hoses such as an AR15. Its not much fun having to "budget" your ammo at the range to spread it out over a couple of hours. (even reloaders can't always guarantee having ammo on hand anymore, as supplies are still hit and miss. )

I think everyone is just finally getting sick of them. Every man and their dog is making an AR copy, being restricted doesn't help, and plenty of suitable replacements in NR are readily available. I got out of ARs years ago.

Newbs want ultra cheap and therefor go buy norinco...

More experienced/involved shooters don't want someone elses used crap...

Been going back and forth on buying a really high end ar, and i just cant get myself to pull the trigger on that purchase. I got my tavor and hopefully a t97 soon for 223 and i guess thats going to be that.
I'm looking at that sg542 in 308so thats what I'm gonna put 2600 on instead of a Noveske or knights in .223
I'm just so tired of the restricted crap, i never even bring my hand gun to the range anymore. I guess thats what the politicians wZnted after-all and they got it.
I think im not the only one going through this existential crisis

I find a lot of folks try to sell their used AR's at close to retail so I'd rather buy new. Plus the advertised round count in my opinion is never accurate.

Furthermore, people are just spending $200 on an SKS just to get their semi-auto jollies. They don't need to spend $1500 on an AR now to do that.

Nothing wrong with the AR market in Canada. Its FULL of available new AR15's at decent prices. No one is in a rush to buy one. Its more popular than ever, restricted or not.

I disagree, look at how fast tavors are flying off h shelves, not one week goes by without a where can i buy a tavor thread. Thats a 2700 purchase that is selling like hot cakes. You cant say it being non restricted high quality rifle has nothing to do with it.

You crazy? I love shooting my AR, and I enjoyed building it so much that I'm constantly browsing parts dreaming up my next builds!

This is very true.

Why don't you bring your handgun to the range?
That is the only place we can shoot them, so what exactly have the politicians done to make you leave something you own and can legally use, at home?
Giving them what they want is good reason for you to "harden the !@#$ up"...

I have to agree with this. I just think that with sub $1000 AR's starting to become more available the used ones probably aren't going to hold their value as well. Dealers still seem to sell out of the popular models on a regular basis.

This can be a case of come-and-go, vacation season, hunting season, lack of money, bank accounts, etc.

But some time ago I predicted AR sales will go down.
People who have their eyes open and see the writing of the wall, have another firearm-related priorities now.

I've been into older milsurp stuff for years, but have recently started looking at AR's and getting a feel for what's available, checking the forums and generally gaining some knowledge. To be honest (as an AR newbie) when I'm looking at some of them on the equipment exchange, I'm reluctant to dive-in with a rifle that's been altered, updated, upgraded, items added and generally spec'd out to the current owners requirements...No matter how much they've spent on it, I don't want someone else's 'custom' rifle....IMHO..

you will have a much easier time parting out that AR you have for sale than assembled

Your market is probably just saturated. It's been amazing the past three years watching AR prices plummet over here. 5 years ago you would have payed $3500+ (and I mean waaaayyy+) for a ####ty AR (like DPMS). These days you aren't in the market unless you are selling a new gun, or an as new gun with optics and other bits for less than $2500. The arrival of the NEA's totally torpedoed all the price gougers out of the water, now every man and his dog has, or at least is in the market for an AR.

This. Now I'm not saying this in regards to your ad as I have not looked at it. I'm looking for parts myself so I rarely look at ads for complete guns.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. After Canadian Tire put out a pellet gun that looked (from a few feet away) exactly like an AR-15, it's hard for me to look at one and not think of the M4-177 (yes, I bought one, *ahem* - for my grandson, when he comes to visit )

The other thing is, like cell phones in the 1990's, there seems to have been this craze to make them tinier and tinier and with those little short barrels and tiny fore grips, I'm sorry, they just look so un-battle-rifle to me...personally, I would rather have a full length barrel in a bull pup, in, say .308 or 7.62X39mm.

The AR-15, in .223, with those little tiny barrels, is like a great PDW but let's not pretend it's a battle rifle.
Even US troops in the middle east are complaining that it just doesn't do the job. One Sgt complained that it had good stopping power with 2-3 shots to the upper torso, and that's it. But it wasn't cutting it across the longer distance firefights they are encountering.

Ever seen that skit "big man in a little coat", lol?
