Has the used handgun market tanked or is it still strong?

I think people are asking too much for their guns because a few years ago when the oil industry was booming that's what they sold for. That, and the Mains Stream Media continuously calling for Canadian Handgun bans for the last two years has got some spooked on spending on "collections".

Prices are soft now now doubt. If by some miracle we get a conservative majority I see handgun prices in general and especially collectables skyrocketing in three years as the sport and hobby grows. If the most likely outcome of a liberal minority government is elected in October handgun prices will remain low and possibly drop like rocks if the lib's election platform includes a ban.

I find cheaper used guns in stores even with tax added than on EE many times. Here are two examples model 19-4 from what I can see barely fired for $500 and 1956 Highway patrolman pre model 28 that barely has a cylinder line, not a mark on it for $725. Not long ago saw a model 27-2 5inch locally for $599 in very good condition, just a bit of blueing wear. Can't find these prices in EE.

Buying new restricteds at our dealers take all the doubt of paying too much from the equation.

Hardly. Most would rather buy a gun that is known to work vice an unknown gun with a warranty.

People often complain about EE prices being all over and thats true of every secondary market everywhere.

Many sellers dont appreciate that there is no meaningful difference between BNIB and Only fired 10 rds, as far as the buyers risks go. Either way no manufacturer or dealer warranty for a second owner, regardless of round count.

Sellers think saving taxes and shipping is enough to entice a buyer. Most buyers think the uncertainty is worth more than 10% of the purchase.

Eitherway the market is certainly as healthy as ever. More buyers than ever. More inventory than ever. If you are flexible and patient there are plwnty of good deals to be made for both parties.

No thanks, for me it's brand new, it's good for adding some restricteds to the pool of restricteds in Canada, plus it's good that by using my credit card i have a return of 6.5% on all purchases i make,( not only firearms, everything )so if i spend like 75k in a year i get back some serious money, like 5K of untaxed money.

This money after that is used to buy more firearms.

To buy something off the EE it would have to be something i need bad like i bought my HK Mark 23 brand new from a member i couldn't get it new or the price would have to be so low for me to be interested in.

Some say i'd rather be fishing, i say i'd rather be buying new.

I prefer New if possible except of course oldie but goodies, then, You have to take your chances. It seems handguns are priced higher on the EE than rifles and shotguns, most handguns are priced so close to new, that it isn't worth the risk to not purchase new!

In my experience, market has not tanked, but going towards to slowly.
I used to buy 12+ restricteds per year, old people parting out, estates, people who needed quick money...

I would shoot them for 50-100 rounds to try them and confirm function, full strip clean, and then sell or trade for guns I’d really want.
Since this “handgun ban” has been in the talks and looming over, i do not sell guns anymore,
CGN market has dropped significantly, more of a buyers market now.

I still buy, only new now, but think twice about it, as if i resell i will lose much more than before.
Not into race guns anymore, know a few folks taking heavy beatings on SV Infinity, not a time to buy these sorts of guns new anyways.

This whole post is my perspective and opinion, i may be really off, but in my 60-70+ restricteds i dealt in the last few years,
I definitely noticed a tendency.

On my end, i do not discriminate! Bew, old, if it has been well maintained, it will be just as good as new! I when buying second hand, i like to be able to see firsthand so normally willl buy from a gun shop or club something under consignment. So for you who only buy new, pleade keep going, just gives more opportunity on the market for guys like me! :)

My neighbor invited me to shoot at a local shop. He bought two handguns in the last three weeks on-line,S&W M&P 9mm and S&W M&P .22,both beautiful firearms. It's been 25 years since I left law enforcement, but,it was like riding a bike, you never forget timing and technique. While waiting for a clerk to buy ammo,I was surprised with the number of people that were buying "R" class firearms nor how busy staff was looking after customers. From what I saw,I don't believe for one second that "R" class sales are stagnant. It was a crazy busy both Saturday and Sunday with most sales being handguns, but, there was a lot of Ruger AR556 flying out of the store room, too.

Thanks for sharing. Warms my heart to hear buyers aren’t shying away from restricteds.

This is not a gun issue but a generations issue plus guns are evil brainwashing. It's happening across the board with muscle cars, motorcycles, antiques and so on, when the buyer pool for this stuff dies out most of this stuff will end up in the garbage. New generations just don't care about this stuff, heck I know 3 guys in there 30's who haven't even bothered to get a driver's license yet. Game console and latest tech hardware yup. Disposable income is also a big factor.
