This is my first range report, so hey be kind

Got this shotgun late last year as a birthday gift from my Wife and family. Its a Hatsan Escort MP in the OD green. Its the 7+1 with 20" barrel. its 100$ stock but comes with adjustable ghost rings, rails, flash suppressor, and is Fixed Cylinder. Would love to add a choke setup, and found out the threads for the flash suppressor are the same for the Saiga shotgun. So one day may get my hands on the choke adapters for the Saiga and see what happens.

I have had this thing to the range a few times, ran some slugs through it (never knew how much recoil slugs had until i got this thing) and even tried some trap. Was surprised how well I did at trap as long as i got on target FAST else the spread opened up to much. I know not a trap gun but still fun and its practice. First 2 range trips I only had 5 or 10 slugs and never got the things on paper. But I was using smaller targets. That said the gun ran perfectly, no stoppages, or any funny business. IT just worked as a simple pump action shotgun should. Everything on the gun feels solid and looks like it could take some abuse. The only exception to this is the heat guard on the barrel which is held into the receiver by 2 small metal tabs. I plan to see what i can to to reinforce this but lets be honest, that's not a required part on this thing.

Been wanting to get my hunting license in time for the fall deer hunt and had been wondering if this shotgun could be used for that purpose. In southern Ontario deer hunt is done with bow, black powder or shotgun, no rifles allowed. This being some what compact compared to the 28" barrel shotgun we have, it has sights and can handle a scope makes this a interesting option. The previous trips to the range told me nothing so had to test. I have only seen one person on these forums talk about this gun accuracy, they complain they could not get it sighted in, but no more details.

Picked up some large target sheets, 2 boxes of 25 sellier and bellot slugs packs and some medium rings for a shotgun 1-4x scope I happen to have (was on a 22). Did not realize until after that the slugs where 2 5/8 but quick look online showed these would be fine in a 2 3/4-3" shotgun. These are not high end slugs by any stretch but figured good enough to see if the gun can even group a little. Also they where found to be lower velocity at 1345 fps vs the 1600-1700 of say Winchester rounds I tried before. Well at least that means the shoulder would take less of a beating. As for the rings, I goofed, the rings are not near high enough to get the scope above the rear ghoft ring assembly which can not be removed from the gun. Have to find some rings later that let me mount the scope, so m tests where done with the ghost rings.

So onto the fun today. I first set up at the 50 yard mark and shot off 10 shells and was very haply surprised. one flyer (i am sure it was me), and 9 decently grouped slug holes. in the pic below you can see i put in my leatherman which dose have inch marking on the thing. The leatherman is 8" wide so it gives a good idea of the group sizes. Do note I believe the one flyer was the top left hit. I did have my nephew who also put a few shots down range, the rest where his.

So based on these results, said hey lets see what I can do out at 100 yards. Now from what I read most say when hunting with shotgun slugs like this, 50-75 yards is accurate, after that it can open up. I am no expert on this and my first time shooting slugs out to 100 yards. I will note i did not use a rest or anything, just my elbows on the table. This time I was not near as grouped, but at least every shot did hit green :) Now in this you also see some sks hits on the target. Now I don't know how much of the large group was me and how much was the ammo and distance. But hey that green guy is still not a happy camper.

So for my next trip I want to get the scope on the rifle and use some sandbags to see how well i can sight in at 50 yards and see if i can make the 100 yards tighter. I also want to grab some 2 3/4 Winchester slugs. The Canadian tire near me has boxes of 15 that do 1600fps for 14.29 which seams liek a decent price to me. So next time I will have the scope, the remainder of the ammo I used today and some Winchester. But the idea of using this for deer hunting this fall are looking up.

Great report! You got a better shooting one than I did.

Mine functioned great and was of nice quality. But I ended up not jiving with the pistol grip and slug groupings were very unsatisfactory and I didn't feel like wasting any more rounds trying to sight it in.
Sold the gun locally, never looked back. I do love Hatsan pumps though, and have three more varieties of them.

I get much better comfort and slug accuracy with my Aimgaurd model using only the front sight.
